What you’ll do

As a Senior Application Engineer – Motor Design, you will serve as a key technical liaison between Niron Magnetics and its customers, applying your expertise in electric motor design to ensure seamless integration of our breakthrough Iron Nitride Magnets into customer products. You will play a pivotal role in accelerating adoption of Iron Nitride-based magnets by guiding motor design strategies, offering hands-on technical support, and helping to shape best practices for implementation.

  • Technical expertise and design
    • Act as the primary motor design expert within the Applications Engineering team, advising customers on optimal motor configurations using Iron Nitride Clean Earth Magnets.
    • Translate customer performance requirements into motor design strategies that maximize the advantages of Niron’s unique magnetic material.
    • Develop and deliver high-quality documentation—application notes, technical guides, reference designs, and simulation models—to support customer adoption at scale
  • Customer support and lifecycle engagement
    • Support customers through the design and development lifecycle, including simulation, prototyping, and performance validation
    • Lead technical discussions with customer engineering teams to evaluate their system needs, identify design constraints, and propose actionable solutions
    • Represent the company at technical workshops, conferences, and customer meetings as a trusted subject matter expert in motor design and magnetic applications
  • Cross-functional collaboration
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal R&D, product, and magnet design teams to ensure alignment between motor-level and material-level performance

What we’re looking for

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field, with advanced degree (M.S.) preferred
  • 5-10 years of hands-on electric machine design experience encompassing magnetics, mechanical packaging, and manufacturing – industrial motor design experience a plus
  • Expertise with Electromagnetic Finite Element Analysis
  • Experience with application-based Motor design software tools (e.g., COMSOL, Motor-CAD – the successful candidate will have opportunity to select tools of their choice)
  • Experience managing external vendors for custom motor projects
  • Experience or familiarity with various motor topologies (e.g., IPM, PMa-SynRM, VFMMs)
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills that adapt to the audience (e.g., internal vs. customers)

Our pay and benefits

  • Salary: $110,000 - $140,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and skills
  • Equity position in Niron via stock option grant
