The Role..

We are looking for an experienced Analytics Engineer to join our data team to enhance our data-platform. This role will develop advanced analytics features into our transformations layer, optimise performance, and work with data engineers to ensure scalability and robustness.

Candidates for the role will have proven expertise in developing complex and performant SQL data models, with a deep understanding of dbt Core or dbt Cloud and Snowflake. The ideal candidate will have experience managing semantic layer based BI tools, such as Omni or Looker.

Key Responsibilities..

  • Develop advanced and performant SQL transformations in dbt to support complex analytics and reporting needs, ensuring optimised performance in handling large-scale data.
  • Optimise sql codebase for Snowflake credit spend and dbt build times, tune materialisations and incremental models, and report against build KPIs.
  • Set up and manage dbt projects to ensure that the codebase is stable, scalable, and maintainable, adhering to best practices for long-term success.
  • Administer and manage dbt Cloud (Fusion), including scheduling and job monitoring.
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure our transformation layer integrates seamlessly with our ingestion layer, enabling end-to-end analytics pipelines.
  • Implement and manage data observability processes and tools to monitor and ensure data quality, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Administer our semantic layer in Omni (Omni.co) to ensure transformed business data and governed metrics are available for end-users.
  • Manage our GitHub repository, ensuring version control best practices, implementation of automated testing workflows, and seamless collaboration between teams.
  • Contribute to the development of master data management documentation and coding standards.

Required Skills and Experience..

  • Expertise in advanced SQL and data modelling techniques utilising dbt, with a strong emphasis on performant and optimised transformations for complex analytics and reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake, including familiarity with its SQL dialect, performance tuning features and AI functions.
  • Experience administering dbt Cloud, setting up scalable and maintainable projects, and scheduling workflows.
  • Experience working with semantic layers for BI tooling, including defining metrics and relationships, ensuring data availability, user access and performance. Omni or Looker strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of data observability tools and processes to monitor data quality and identify anomalies.
  • Experience managing GitHub repositories, including version control, automated testing workflows, and fostering team collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with data engineering teams to build new data pipelines and integrate transformation layers seamlessly with ingestion layers.

Preferred Experience..

  • Use of AI for coding workflows. Claude Code preferred.
  • AI context for semantic layers, especially in Omni. Curate AI context, field descriptions and sample queries in the semantic layer so AI assistants answer questions accurately.
  • Experience in the hospitality industry and familiarity with hospitality-specific data and KPIs.
