About You and This Role:

The Global Process Analytical team at Dow, Inc. is seeking an optical spectroscopist, focused on the implementation of optical analytical technology in process applications. This role you will support a range of optical analytical technologies including infrared (IR), near infrared (NIR), laser-based spectrometers and Raman analyzers that are deployed online to support production processes. You will also a subject matter expert in process analyzer engineering activities related to process spectroscopic measurements, including drawing reviews, sample system design, nozzles or cell installations. You will lead projects and multi-disciplinary teams in support of all Dow businesses.

For example, by working across a site, hub, region or business(es) to provide process analytical solution and implementation of Most Effective Technology (MET) and improvements to process analytical methods for manufacturing plant/product support. You will be required expanded conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and broad capabilities. Basic knowledge of chemical process will be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Use online analytical technology to resolve manufacturing issues and enhance process efficiency.
  • Scope new technology, primarily, but not limited to, spectroscopic techniques. Recognize opportunities to develop new applications. Design testing protocols and plans of action.
  • Work with vendors to understand their service offerings and determine how they can be used to solve production issues at Dow.
  • Manage projects with small teams of people from different backgrounds and roles.
  • Successfully manage stakeholder communications, including communicating about project value, expectations, and progress.
  • Serve as subject matter expert related to process analyzer engineering activities such as; drawing reviews, sample system design, nozzles or cell installations, particularly as these activities relate to process spectroscopic technology.
  • Document work in internal reporting systems, external publications, and patent applications, as appropriate.
  • Provides expertise for high level troubleshooting and repair of process analytical instrumentation. Trains others on analytical systems and technology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of PhD in Analytical or Physical Chemistry Or MS in chemistry and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Workable knowledge in IR, NIR, UV, Raman spectroscopy and related skills such as analytical modeling.
  • Must possess a TWIC card or be eligible to obtain one.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Prefer Skill:

  • Direct experience with documentation - either internal or academic journals.
