Senior Data Analyst

• Range $97,607 - $130,142. Actual salary dependent on experience, skills and alignment with the requirements of the role.

Ko tōu ake mahi - What you’ll do

This is an opportunity to apply quantitative analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to some of the most important health challenges facing New Zealand. You will work closely with colleagues and stakeholders to understand complex issues, develop analytical approaches, and provide evidence that supports better decisions and improved health outcomes.

• Synthesise information from diverse sources (including IDI and administrative datasets) and communicate compelling, evidence-based advice to decision-makers
• Apply statistical and economic modelling and analysis techniques to policy scenarios using complex health datasets
• Lead analytical projects, share and develop your skills and mentor team members
• Build strong relationships across the Ministry and wider health sector and ensure work helps to achieve pae ora - healthy futures for all New Zealanders.

Around half the role involves quantitative analysis and modelling, with the other half focused on understanding stakeholder needs, interpreting and presenting results, and providing practical advice to inform policy and decision-making.

Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you’ll bring

• Experience applying quantitative methods to real-world policy or strategic questions – this could include statistical modelling, econometrics, epidemiology, forecasting, or other analytical approaches  
• Well developed problem solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to grasp new concepts quickly
• Ability to work with ambiguity, frame complex problems, and identify the most appropriate analytical approach when there is no obvious answer
• Experience using quantitative analysis tools such as R and SQL
• Strong communication and relationship management skills, including the ability to communicate complex insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences 
• Enjoy working as a team
• A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an understanding of our responsibilities under Te Tiriti for data governance, analysis and reporting
• A knowledge of the health sector would be an advantage.
