Job Description

Reporting to the Vice President, Quantitative and Growth Markets, the incumbent uses his or her understanding of the Asian market as well as his or her strong analytical rigor to contribute to the management of Japanese equity portfolios. Through his knowledge of the Japanese language, culture and geopolitical context, he helps to identify alpha opportunities as well as risks specific to the Japanese equity market.

What You Will Do

• Monitor the market, macroeconomic and geopolitical environment, with a focus on the Japanese market, with a view to understanding local dynamics in detail

• Understand the business model and return drivers of major Japanese stocks, and make buy and sell recommendations, also based on quantitative signals.

• Establish and maintain relationships of trust with local partners (companies, brokers, managers)

• Prepare presentations to support the reporting of the team's investment activities to the various stakeholders and committee
• Support portfolio managers in the day-to-day management of equity portfolios, acting as the main point of contact for Japanese equities
• Ensure the harmonization of practices between the Montreal and Singapore offices, promoting the sharing of best practices and consistency of approaches

What You Bring

• Graduation in finance, mathematics, or other related disciplines
• Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience
• Strong interest in equity markets, particularly in international and Asian contexts

• Fluency in English and Japanese, both oral and written
• Programming skills an asset (Python preferred)

Skills Required

  • Graduation in finance, mathematics, or related discipline
