MeDirect is a Maltese digital bank, founded in 2004, with over 180,000 clients and operations in Malta and Belgium. We offer a wide range of financial services to both retail and corporate clients, including daily banking, savings, and corporate services.

We are always on the lookout for determined and hard-working individuals who are eager to take the next step in their career. At MeDirect, we strive to provide an exceptional employment experience, fostering growth, collaboration, and innovation.

Role Overview

We are looking for a motivated team player with a keen eye for spotting trends and improvement opportunities and who enjoys working in a dynamic environment to join our Finance team as a Senior Analyst – Expense Management.

Behind every spending decision at MeDirect is a number someone needs to trust. As Senior Analyst, you make sure those numbers are right and then help the business understand what they mean. You will run and review the Group’s expense-related month-end close across all entities, so that accruals, prepayments, recharges and depreciation are accurate and controlled. Then you will go further: investigating variances, spotting cost trends and risks early, and giving cost centre owners the insight to manage their budgets with confidence. Your work feeds the management and regulatory reporting that the executive team, the Board and our supervisors rely on.

You will also be a technical anchor for the team, guiding and reviewing the work of analysts and officers, and deputising for the Manager when needed. It is a natural step toward managing a finance team, in a growing, ECB-supervised digital bank.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver a reliable close and clear reporting

  • Perform month-end close activities for capital and operating expenditure, including accruals, prepayments, recharges, depreciation and reconciliations.
  • Perform variance analyses and investigate differences
  • Support the production of management and regulatory reporting.

Be the business’s cost partner

  • Prepare cost centre reports and expense analyses.
  • Support cost centre owners in monitoring spend and budget performance.
  • Identify cost trends, risks and anomalies, and escalate where appropriate.
  • Help prepare management presentations and reporting packs.

Shape how we plan and allocate costs

  • Prepare and maintain cost allocation calculations and supporting schedules.
  • Take part in the annual cost budget and the monthly rolling forecasts.
  • Help prepare cost outlooks and scenario analyses.

Make the way we work better

  • Support the maintenance and improvement of systems and reporting tools.
  • Identify process improvements and help put them into practice.
  • Contribute to up-to-date policies and procedure documentation.

Grow the team

  • Provide guidance support to analysts, and review their work where required.
  • Support training and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Act as deputy to the Manager when required.
  • Deliver your own work accurately and within agreed deadlines.
  • Support the Manager – Expense Management and the Deputy CFO on other finance activities as needed.

Development Opportunities:

  • Exposure to the Group’s full cost base across all entities, and a view of how a regulated digital bank plans and controls its spend.
  • Visibility with senior stakeholders through management packs, working with the Manager – Expense Management and the Deputy CFO.
  • A first taste of leadership: reviewing others’ work, coaching colleagues and
    deputising for the Manager.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Strong accounting and financial analysis skills, supported by practical experience in a finance environment
  • Relevant qualification or studies in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
  • Hands-on experience with month-end processes, including reconciliations, accruals, prepayments and review of financial information
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills: ability to investigate variances, identify trends and explain movements, identify inconsistencies or control issues, follow them through to resolution
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including the ability to analyse
    and reconcile large datasets
  • Ability to take ownership of complex tasks and deliver accurately within tight reporting deadlines
  • Strong skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, particularly when explaining financial information and analytical findings

Desirable:

  • Experience within banking, financial services or another regulated environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV or a similar ERP/accounting system
  •  Experience preparing management information, financial analysis or month-end reporting
  • Knowledge of VAT and relevant accounting treatments
  • Experience improving financial processes, reconciliations, controls or reporting

What We Do

MeDirect (formerly known as Mediterranean Bank) is a pan-European retail digital challenger bank, with two main lines of business: WealthTech and specialised mortgage lending. As a WealthTech, our aspiration is to democratise investing and disrupt the retail digital investment space by deploying a unique Wealth SuperApp offering one of the broadest range of online investment solutions to individual clients. We provide clients with autonomy, choice and guidance in the way they want to manage their money. Our SuperApp is also a one-stop-shop, catering to clients’ investment and everyday banking needs. All this with simplicity and an easy user experience. As a specialised mortgage lending platform, we carefully select the segments we operate in, with the goal of setting new standards of service for our customers and address, when relevant, underserved segments of the mortgage market in jurisdictions we operate in. With ca. 400 employees at Group level in aggregate, we are growing a world-class Tech platform in Malta to support our pan-European operations, currently in Belgium, the Netherlands and Malta. We compete for talent on an international level, with 25 different nationalities currently represented in the Group. Our work environment is fast paced and constantly changing while fostering a sense of teamwork and pride in participating in MeDirect’s exciting transformation journey. Headquartered in Malta, MeDirect has a subsidiary bank in Belgium, MeDirect Bank NV/SA. MeDirect is Malta’s third largest banking group in terms of total assets. It is a systemic bank in Malta, and its consolidated group is supervised under the Single Supervisory Mechanism by a Joint Supervisory Team including the European Central Bank, the Malta Financial Services Authority and the National Bank of Belgium.
