Position Summary

The Sr. Agilist is responsible for working with and coaching multiple and or larger scale teams using Agile based tools and ways of working.  Incumbents work with greater independence and lead efforts that drive solutions to issues with multiple teams.  This role works closely with other colleagues, product owners, team members, communities of practice, and leadership to deliver value to their teams and the Duke community.  The Sr. Agilist is relatively Agile discipline-agnostic pracitioner, helping teams use the Agile tools that make the most sense for them vs. being committed to a specific discipline such as Scrum or Kaban.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering Agility

  • Guides team maturity by introducing new concepts and disciplines for value delivery

  • Coaching and facilitating development teams through all aspects of the agile process including release planning, sprint planning, daily standups, product demos, backlog refinement, scrum of scrum meetings (when using Scrum), and retrospectives

  • Proactively prevent potential roadblocks and barriers

  • Proactively manage dependencies and risks. 

  • Demonstrates ownership by building and capitalizing on inter-team relationships for managing dependencies and risks.

  • Demonstrates appropriate judgment on when it's time to help the team pivot.  This can include but is not limited to changing priorities, technology changes. 

  • Identify and address where psychological safety concerns exist.  

  • Proven track record of success in agile product delivery, knowledge of best practices and the ability to provide leadership oversight and planning of development activities

  • Provide metrics to support data-driven decision making to deliver value.

  • Ability to navigate various layers of the organization, identify allies and coordinate with other teams to improve delivery of value to the customer.  - Coaching Agility

  • Work with key stakeholders to address anti-patterns that impede agility

  • Help team members embrace a deeper understanding of the role and expectations

  • Coach value-driven backlog prioritization techniques - Consult & Advice

  • Help to develop product-level strategies, primarily at team level

  • Understand and contribute to road mapping - Cultural Growth & Influence​

  • Foster collaboration and communication outside of your team

  • Challenge the status quo

  • Contributes to Community of Practice (CoP)/Center of Excellence (CoE)

  • Mentors peers - Agile Training

  • Contribute to learning content ​

Required/Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Other Related Degree

  • In addition to required degree, four (4) years related work experience

  • In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND 4 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 6 year(s) related work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and coordinating several Agile Product teams concurrently, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and timelines.

  • Experience with working with vendor solutions within a broader technology ecosystem (Auth0-Okta)

  • Demonstrated experience in converting legacy identity management systems to modern digital identity frameworks.

  • Implementation of Social Identities into existing platforms

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.

  • Demonstrated servant-leadership in nontraditional ways (coaching, volunteer work leadership, etc.)

  • Interacts effectively with others at all levels of the organization; makes persuasive and informative presentations.

  • Experience in the utility industry

  • Experience in supporting Digital Identity and transformation efforts

  • Ability to manage multiple product teams

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.

Specific Requirements

  • At least 1 of the following certifications: CSM, PSM, PMI-ACP, KMP, ICP-ATF, SA, SASM, DASM, PMP

  • Demonstrates:

  • Proficiency in multiple Agile frameworks (e.g Scrum, Kanban)

  • Proficiency in consulting, advising, coaching

  • Strong facilitation skills - can mobilize others

  • Openness, approachability, collaborative nature, and enjoyment working with passionate people

  • A learner mindset - naturally curious to learn more

  • Ability to consult with teams on the Agilie discipline that works for them

  • Experience with value-driven prioritization techniques.

  • Agile values and principles.

  • Passionately proactive at problem-solving

  • Ability to meet an individual or team where they are and help them succeed

  • Professional judgment on when to ask for help.

  • Ability to take on multiple efforts of varying complexity (commensurate with experience).
