The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for directly managing the AR Specialist, AP Specialist, and Staff Accountant, and for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and discipline of subledger operations and the monthly close process. This role acts as the operational bridge between subledgers and the GL, ensuring that transaction-level activity is complete, accurate, and ready for close—while personally owning and executing close calendar deliverables for non-inventory accounts.

This role is based in our New Orleans Headquarters 5 days a week.

Key Responsibilities:

I. Team Management (AR, AP & Staff Accountant)

  • Directly manage the AR Specialist, AP Specialist, and Staff Accountant, and own their performance outcomes 
  • Establish clear daily, weekly, and monthly deliverables 
  • Unblock issues quickly and enforce escalation discipline 
  • Implement structured cadences (1:1s, weekly reviews, KPI tracking) 

II. Subledger Accuracy & Output Quality

  • Ensure AR and AP data is complete, accurate, and timely 
  • Review aging, cash application, payables, and vendor activity regularly 
  • Enforce documentation standards and transaction support 
  • Ensure subledger outputs are close-ready

III. Month-End Close 

  • Own close execution for non-inventory accounts (AR, AP, accruals, expenses, etc.) 
  • Ensure all entries and reconciliations are completed on time 
  • Personally prepare and review journal entries and account analyses for non-inventory close areas in partnership with the Staff Accountant 
  • Track close progress and proactively resolve delays 

IV. Reconciliations & Trial Balance Oversight

  • Personally prepare and/or review reconciliations for non-inventory balance sheet accounts 
  • Ensure completeness, accuracy, and proper documentation 
  • Identify risks, aging items, or unresolved balances 
  • Escalate material issues to the Controller

V. Process Discipline & Visibility

  • Build visibility into team performance, bottlenecks, and risks 
  • Drive continuous improvement in execution efficiency
  • Enforce strong cut-off procedures and documentation standards
  • Partner with Controller to document and improve accounting processes for efficiency, audit-readiness & scalability 
  • Report to Controller, compliance with sales tax and regulatory reporting

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including cost accounting, with at least 3 years spent personally preparing (not solely reviewing) journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations 
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships, facilitating processes and accountability 
  • Minimum of 2 years directly supervising accounting staff with documented performance-review responsibility (verifiable via references, including direct report headcount and titles) 
  • Experience working with a retail, consumer goods, or related business with understanding of inventory management highly preferred
  • Experience working with NetSuite 
  • Must possess an ability and a desire to work effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment; solution-oriented 
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize critical needs effectively; this is a hands-on, transactional role that includes personally preparing journal entries and reconciliations, not solely reviewing the work of others 
  • Able to communicate effectively with various levels in the organization and with external parties with ability to influence and collaborate
