Objectives:
The Senior Accountant will help scale Red Oak’s accounting function and take ownership of core financial processes as we transition from an outsourced model to a fully in-house operation. This is a high-impact, individual contributor role that touches everything from revenue recognition and general ledger accounting to audit support, reporting, and tax system administration.
This role will partner closely with the Controller, CFO, and cross-functional teams, and play an essential role in building a best-in-class accounting function that supports data-driven decisions and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
Core Accounting & Close Execution
Lead the month-end close process in Sage Intacct with accuracy and reliability
Prepare and post journal entries and ensure timely reconciliations of key accounts
Maintain balance sheet integrity and document reconciling items
Drive consistency and quality across all financial records
Revenue Recognition
Own SaaS revenue recognition under ASC 606
Maintain deferred revenue schedules and revenue roll-forwards
Interpret contracts and billing terms to ensure correct revenue treatment
Support functional SaaS metrics (ARR, churn, expansion)
Financial Reporting
Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
Partner with Finance and FP&A for variance analysis and insight generation
Support management reporting and FP&A deliverables
Audit & Compliance
Prepare PBC schedules and lead accounting workstreams for annual audits
Coordinate responses with auditors and external advisors
Document and improve accounting policies and procedures
Avalara & Tax Systems
Own day-to-day administration of Avalara sales tax system
Maintain nexus, tax code sets, and filing calendars
Partner with external tax advisors on questions and filings
Process & Systems Improvement
Be a Sage Intacct power user and help optimize workflows
Support integrations across Salesforce, Bill.com, and Ramp
Identify opportunities to automate, simplify, and strengthen the accounting stack
Competencies:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
5+ years of progressive accounting experience
Hands-on Sage Intacct ERP experience required
Strong understanding of GAAP and month-end close processes
Direct experience with revenue recognition (ASC 606), in a B2B SaaS environment
Experience preparing financial statements and supporting audits
Experience administering sales tax systems (Avalara preferred)
Experience supporting SaaS or B2B products.
Preferred:
Exposure to Fresh Desk/Zendesk or Client support workflows.
Experience transitioning accounting from outsourced to in-house
Experience working with:
Salesforce
Bill.com
Ramp or similar spend management tools
Public accounting experience as an auditor
CPA or CPA-eligible
Work Structure:
Red Oak values the energy and creativity that comes from working together in person. To support this cultural element, this hybrid role is based out of our North Austin HQ with a minimum of 3 days (Tuesday-Thursday) in the office each week.
