About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and strategic Senior Accountant to join our newly established finance team. This role supports both corporate and project-level financial operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in renewable energy or real estate development and play a pivotal role in building the financial backbone of a fast-growing community-microgrid developer focused on delivering clean energy solutions to underserved communities.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, invoice processing, payments, and collections.
- Manage vendor compliance and bank transactions across multiple entities
Record journal entries and support payroll processing. - Handle employee expense reimbursements and corporate credit card reconciliations.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate
reconciliations (bank, intercompany, assets). - Act as the primary contact for operational accounting issues, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
Project Accounting
- Track and reconcile development costs, capital expenditures, and construction-in-progress.
- Support draw requests and compliance reporting for lenders, tax equity investors, and other financing partners.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare and review GAAP-compliant financial statements.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, investor reporting standards, and financing covenants.
- Coordinate audit schedules and liaise with external auditors.
- Partner with third-party accounting teams for tax reporting and compliance
Process Improvement & Systems Development
Collaborate with the CFO:
- Identify and implement process enhancements to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Evaluate and recommend software tools or ERP systems to support anticipated growth.
- Develop SOPs and cross-functional policies to ensure scalable, high-quality financial operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in renewable energy or real estate development.
- Strong background in project-based accounting and complex entity structures.
- Familiarity with financing mechanisms such as construction loans, project finance, tax equity, and joint ventures.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and advanced Excel skills.
- Comfortable working in a startup or early-stage environment and building foundational systems from the ground up.
