ABOUT YOUR NEW ROLE
The Senior Accountant will support Herschel’s accounting team in providing accurate and timely financial information to our stakeholders by: performing and reviewing month-end close tasks, reconciling key balance sheet accounts and analyzing financial information. This position reports to the Assistant Controller and works closely with other Finance team members.
A DAY IN THE LIFE

- Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the liability and sales and use tax sections of the financial statements in accordance with both APSE and Herschel’s accounting policies
- Preparing monthly journal entries and reconciliations;
- Resolve accounting questions and issues to ensure month end close is achieved in a timely manner
- Conducting detailed variance analysis over both the statement of profit and loss and key balance sheet accounts; and
- Leading process improvement initiatives to improve accuracy and optimize the accounting function.
- Filing sales and use tax adhering to reporting/filling deadlines in all tax jurisdictions;
- Assisting in the interim and year-end audit process by liaising with and preparing supporting schedules for external auditors
- Assisting in the development of accounting policies, procedures and internal controls
- Participating in special projects and business initiatives as needed
- Working with internal stakeholders to provide timely and relevant information
ABOUT YOU
- A minimum of 3 years of accounting experience with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- CPA designation or equivalent is essential
- Strong accounting technical skills with knowledge of IFRS and/or ASPE
- A motivated, self-starter, who enjoys digging into the details, solving problems and seeing things through to the end
- Strong interpersonal and listening skills, to work with all internal and external individuals in a friendly, professional and competent manner
- High degree of critical thinking and analytical skills
- Is extremely organized, with time management and prioritization abilities, who can operate under tight deadlines
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
- Experience at a large public practice firm preferable
- Industry experience, and/or familiarity with an ERP system are considered assets.
