Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support a large, complex organization in a structured and deadline-driven environment. This role is responsible for advanced general ledger and budget-related accounting functions, including the preparation, review, and approval of journal entries, complex account reconciliations, and financial analysis to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records.
The ideal candidate brings a strong command of accounting principles, exercises sound professional judgment, and plays a key role in supporting financial reporting, compliance, and informed decision-making across the organization.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive professional accounting experience
- Extensive experience preparing, reviewing, and approving journal entries and account reconciliations
- Advanced knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial reporting
- Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards
- Demonstrated experience working in a large, complex, or regulated accounting environment
- Experience performing and overseeing monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Experience handling monthly postings, reconciliations, and reporting for GASB 87 and GASB 96, including accurately entering leases, contracts, and amendments into lease management software
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies or trends, and recommend corrective actions
- Experience ensuring compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements
- Proven ability to support audits and respond to complex financial data requests
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
Experience Preferences:
- Experience supporting or leading budget development, monitoring, and variance analysis
- Experience in a public-sector, governmental, or highly regulated organization
- Familiarity with ERP or enterprise-level accounting systems
- Experience serving as a subject-matter resource for accounting standards, policies, or financial processes
- Experience collaborating with and advising internal departments on accounting and financial matters
- Prior experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior accounting staff (preferred)
