Your Role
The Senior Accountant’s primary responsibility is to support the financial reporting, operational finance, and property-level accounting functions of INREIT. A key focus of this role is overseeing the real estate portfolio reporting process, including interacting with third-party property managers, analyzing property operating results and financial variances, and reviewing joint venture schedules, allocations, and distribution waterfalls. This position also supports the preparation of INREIT’s external SEC reporting, including Forms 10-Q and 10-K, helps coordinate and review deliverables prepared by INREIT’s third-party administrator, and provides accounting and reporting support to the Assistant Controller and Controller.
You Will Be Responsible For:
- Responsible for preparing financial statements and various disclosures within 10-Q’s, 10-K’s, 8-K’s, and other financial reports
- Perform analyses on key metrics to identify trends and analyze variances
- Serve as main point of contact for third-party administrator
- Effectively communicate and interact with the third-party administrators to coordinate the general accounting function and ensure financial statements and other deliverables are received by stated deadlines
- Maintain a working relationship with portfolio managers, asset managers, legal and compliance
- Research technical accounting for transactions and propose and support solutions
- Provide and/or coordinate delivery of audit support to internal and external auditors
- Assist with SOX compliance including providing and coordinating deliverables
- Preparing or reviewing the acquisition and disposition entries for all assets on assigned portfolios and coordinates payments.
- Responsible for all accounting aspects of property onboarding
- Interact frequently with property management companies to ensure monthly and quarterly deliverables are completed and answer any reporting questions they have
- Review real estate property variance analysis prepared by third-party administrator
- Review joint venture schedules and waterfalls prepared by third-party administrator
- Reviewing tax returns prepared by tax advisors and coordinates with internal tax team on tax guidance.
- Assist with development and implementation of policies and procedures as appropriate
The Experience You Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting.
- Master’s degree in Finance/Accounting preferred but not required.
- Three to four years of related work experience in financial reporting/accounting.
- Public Accounting background sought for position.
- Real estate accounting background a plus.
- CPA license preferred but not required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Yardi and/or Workiva software a plus.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals including both internal and external contacts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, organized and flexible.
- Sense of urgency, strong curiosity and attention to detail.
