JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, leading the month-end close process, and ensuring timely and reliable financial reporting. This role owns revenue accounting, general ledger activity, account reconciliations, internal controls, and audit support.

The position partners closely with Sales, Account Management, Operations, Customer Service, Cost Accounting, and leadership to ensure revenue is recorded accurately, recognized in the proper period, and reported in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.

MAIN FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring close is completed within five business days.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepaids, depreciation, and other general ledger activity.
  • Maintain the general ledger, review trial balances, analyze P&L activity, and prepare financial statements.
  • Own revenue accounting processes, including revenue recognition, sales cut-off, customer rebates, sales accruals, freight revenue, credit memos, pricing adjustments, and revenue reconciliations.
  • Review monthly sales activity for completeness, accuracy, timing, and proper period recognition.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, fixed assets, debt schedules, and lease accounting.
  • Support external audits, internal controls, GAAP compliance, sales tax support, and accounting documentation.
  • Partner with Sales, Operations, Customer Service, Account Management, and Cost Accounting to resolve revenue discrepancies, pricing issues, customer credits, and shipment timing concerns.
  • Prepare revenue analysis, financial highlights, close summaries, and financial exception reports for leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the close process, accounting procedures, ERP workflows, automation, and internal controls.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: Accounting experience with exposure to financial close, revenue accounting, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Revenue Accounting: Strong understanding of revenue recognition, sales cut-off, customer rebates, sales accruals, credit memos, pricing adjustments, and revenue reconciliations.
  • General Accounting: Experience with journal entries, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets, depreciation, accruals, prepaids, bank reconciliations, debt schedules, and lease accounting.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Compliance: Working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, audit preparation, sales tax support, and financial documentation.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to review financial activity, identify discrepancies, investigate variances, and resolve accounting issues.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams including Sales, Operations, Customer Service, Account Management, and Cost Accounting.
  • Ownership & Accountability: Highly organized, detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to take ownership of assigned accounting responsibilities.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 2-5 years of accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger and month-end close processes
  • ERP experience preferred (Infor a plus)
  • Experience managing Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrates ownership of responsibilities
  • Proactive problem solver with effective communication skills
  • Ability to manage both people and processes
  • Effective communication with leadership and teams
