We support educators, youth workers, and other professionals in partnering with families to deliver successful, person-centered services and advance family voice in the policy process. 

The Role 

INCLUDEnyc is seeking a full-time Senior Accountant to serve as the primary accounting lead, owning the day-to-day accounting cycle, for a $6M nonprofit. This role requires deep expertise in nonprofit accounting, particularly in public-funded environments. The candidate must be able to operate independently to meet deadlines and deliver on time and accurately. 

Core Responsibilities 

  • Execute the monthly accounting close from start to finish, including account reconciliations
  • Prepare and post all journal entries 
  • Manage restricted grant allocations 
  • Oversee AR and AP processing and invoicing 
  • Complete quarterly government grant reporting and reimbursement requirements
  • Maintain general ledger integrity 
  • Maintain tracking and reporting for all public and private grants 
  • Create cash-flow projections for 3-4 months in advance
  • Execute, oversee, and approve bi-weekly payroll
  • Assess, maintain, and strengthen internal financial controls and accounting procedures to ensure compliance and risk mitigation
  • Experience in supporting annual financial statement audits
  • Manage the fixed asset ledger, tracking additions, disposals, and monthly depreciation
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of annual tax returns (IRS Form 990, NYS CHAR500) and other regulatory compliance filings
  • Preparation of audit schedules, board-level financial reports, grant budgets/reports, and ad hoc financial analyses and other related projects as needed 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required 
  • 7+ years of nonprofit accounting experience 
    • Demonstrated experience with nonprofit revenue recognition, including restricted contributions, conditional grants, and government funding 
    • Experience with functional expense allocation methodologies and public grant compliance requirements 
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data clearly to non-financial staff and leadership
  • Strong attention to data accuracy and financial control integrity 
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, including QuickBooks Projects and MS Excel
  • Strong working knowledge of Google Workspace, including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Drive 
  • Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus 
  • CPA candidate is a plus, but not required. 

Additional Details 

  • Salary range $100- $115K annually
  • Reports directly to the Executive Director and works very closely with the Senior Manager of Finance and Administration
  • Full-time- 35-hour with a 2-day in-person work week and 3 days remote work week 
  • Flexible hours, but must have a predetermined overlap with the Executive Director for purposes of communication, coordination, and training and with the Sr Manager of Administration and Finance

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7+ years of nonprofit accounting experience
  • Demonstrated experience with nonprofit revenue recognition, restricted contributions, conditional grants, and government funding
