The role
As a Semantic Product Strategist at Valtech, you will champion the needs and goals of our client’s business and technical users by defining and executing strategic initiatives to support the development of a semantic data layer. This role requires extensive collaboration with SMEs, engineers, and business leaders to facilitate semantic data modeling and enable search and discovery of our client’s data products. You will effectively communicate and advocate for the benefits of semantic technologies, while actively engaging in the design, validation, and implementation of metadata models, including taxonomies, ontologies, and controlled vocabularies.
Role responsibilities
- Collaborate within the semantic engineering team to define and drive the strategy and roadmap for a semantic data layer, ensuring alignment with enterprise data management and governance practices.
- Partner with business and technical users to gather and analyze metadata requirements, shaping structured semantic models and integrations that support data discovery.
- Design, validate, and implement metadata models, including taxonomies, ontologies, and controlled vocabularies.
- Work with engineers, architects, and product managers to develop and document a metadata flow architecture that traces metadata through the data ecosystem.
- Advocate for best practices in metadata modeling to enhance metadata integration across platforms and enable federated search.
- Work closely with enterprise data governance teams to ensure semantic models support compliance, security, and interoperability standards.
- Stay informed about developments in semantic technologies, metadata management, and information architecture, and play a key role in disseminating knowledge, elevating team expertise, and shaping best practices.
Minimum qualifications

- 8+ years of experience leading strategic initiatives or managing complex semantic product development projects, with a background in metadata, ontology, taxonomy, or data architecture.
- Experience designing scalable data models using semantic data standards (e.g., RDF, SKOS, OWL, SHACL).
- High level of motivation, self-starter, ability to demonstrate effective project management and completion of complex tasks with little guidance.
- Exceptional ability to work with business leaders, SMEs, and cross-functional teams to shape structured knowledge models.
- Knowledge of modern metadata management and data catalog tools such as Collibra is nice to have.
The benefits
This is a full-time salaried or full-time contracted position in the United States. The salary range offered for this position is $150-200K annually, depending on experience.
