Job Summary
The Sector Manager will lead the firm's initiatives in smart mobility and city solutions within the South Region, focusing on developing and deploying innovative urban mobility solutions like on-demand transit, autonomous vehicle technologies, curb space and parking management, congestion pricing, and public-private partnerships in addition to growing traditional practices like transportation and transit planning, ITS/Technology, traffic engineering, sustainability and safety. This role emphasizes expanding the firm's presence and influence across Florida (Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville), and developing the strategic blueprint for expansion into other urban metropolitan centers in the South (e.g., Puerto Rico, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, and Austin).
The Sector Manager will strategically collaborate with colleagues across other regions in North America, supporting key metropolitan areas as needed, such as Washington DC, New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Toronto. By aligning with counterparts in other sectors in the South (e.g., Roads & Highways, Rail & Transit, Bridges, Buildings), this role will drive growth and help achieve TYLin’s objectives in city solutions and smart mobility across the Southern Region.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
Regional Leadership & Market Expansion
- Lead the growth of the South Region for the City Solutions sector, establishing TYLin as a trusted partner in smart mobility, planning, traffic engineering, ITS and urban solutions.
- Develop and implement a regional strategy to increase market share in city solutions and mobility, focusing on both large metropolitan areas and emerging urban centers in the South Region.
- Partner with the VP of Strategic Initiatives to develop the strategic blueprint, get buy-in from the Sector Leader and other key partners like Business Unit/Practice Leaders and other sector managers in the South
- Drive the execution of cross-sector initiatives and partnerships to enhance TYLin’s brand and market presence.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with key clients, including public agencies, private sector stakeholders, and industry organizations. Act as TYLin’s representative in the South Region for urban mobility and city solutions.
- Engage with transit agencies, departments of transportation, and shared mobility providers (e.g., Uber, Lyft) to co-create user-centric transit solutions and improve the overall rider experience.
Strategic Partnerships & Solutions Development
- Collaborate with digital payment providers, Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platforms, and real-time information systems to optimize mobility solutions.
- Drive congestion and parking management initiatives by partnering with cities on dynamic pricing and curb space solutions to reduce congestion and generate revenue.
- Support smart city integration through advanced technologies, including AV and EV solutions, leveraging partnerships with tech firms such as Waymo and Zoox.
Cross-Regional and Sector Collaboration
- Coordinate with other Sector Managers and General Managers across North America to align efforts, share best practices, and pursue joint business development opportunities.
- Support national growth efforts by collaborating on initiatives and resource sharing, particularly in large-scale urban mobility projects and public-private partnerships.
Financial & Performance Management
- Lead the financial management of the South Region for City Solutions, including forecasting, budgeting, and revenue tracking.
- In partnership with the Operations Manager, ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to client satisfaction while optimizing performance and managing risk.
Talent Development & Team Leadership
- Attract, mentor, and retain top industry talent to build a high-performing team within the South Region.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, diversity, and inclusion to strengthen TYLin’s brand and uphold quality standards across projects.
- Support team members in skill development and career advancement, actively participating in performance reviews and talent development programs.
- Provide supervision to the current staff (8 FTEs) while growing the team
Qualifications:
- Minimum 15 years of progressive leadership experience in transportation, smart mobility, or related fields, with a demonstrated ability to forge strategic partnerships.
- Proven experience working with public agencies and managing complex infrastructure projects, especially involving public-private partnerships.
- Extensive knowledge of autonomous and electric vehicle technologies, curb space optimization, and congestion pricing strategies.
- Established network within the public sector, transit agencies, and mobility tech providers.
- Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, and project management expertise, with exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field (Master’s preferred); relevant certifications are an asset.
