We are seeking an experienced Scrum Master (Intermediate SME) to support a high-visibility federal initiative focused on modernizing an examiner workflow platform. This role requires a servant leader who can guide Agile teams, foster continuous improvement, remove impediments, and ensure successful delivery of critical business capabilities.
Position Overview
The Scrum Master will support the CRAFT Team in adopting and executing Agile best practices while facilitating the development of a next-generation examiner workflow tool that will replace and enhance a legacy platform leveraging AWS cloud technologies.
The ideal candidate will serve as a coach, facilitator, and Agile champion, partnering closely with Product Owners, development teams, and leadership to promote Agile principles, maintain backlog health, remove blockers, and drive successful project outcomes.
This position is fully onsite in downtown Washington, DC and requires attendance five days per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Scrum Master and servant leader for Agile delivery teams.
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and release planning.
- Coach teams on Agile values, principles, and best practices.
- Promote self-organization, accountability, and continuous improvement among team members.
- Partner with Product Owners to maintain healthy product backlogs and prioritize work effectively.
- Identify, track, and remove impediments impacting team productivity and delivery.
- Monitor team performance metrics and facilitate continuous process improvements.
- Support Agile transformation initiatives and organizational Agile maturity efforts.
- Foster collaboration among business stakeholders, development teams, and management.
- Ensure alignment between project objectives, sprint goals, and business priorities.
- Assist with risk identification, mitigation planning, and dependency management.
- Encourage adoption of Agile engineering practices including continuous integration, continuous testing, automated testing, and user story development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Computing Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience leading projects, programs, or significant business initiatives.
- Minimum of two (2) years of IT portfolio management and customer relationship management experience.
- Experience serving as a Scrum Master within Agile software development environments.
- Experience supporting Agile transformation initiatives.
- Strong facilitation, communication, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
Required Certifications
Candidates must possess at least one of the following certifications (or equivalent):
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
- SAFe Certification (Scaled Agile Framework)
Desired Knowledge & Experience
- Deep understanding of Agile frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe.
- Experience coaching product teams and leaders on Agile principles and practices.
- Knowledge of Agile development techniques including:
- User Stories
- Continuous Integration (CI)
- Continuous Testing
- Automated Testing
- Pair Programming
- Agile Games and Facilitation Techniques
- Experience supporting cloud-based application development environments, preferably AWS.
- Ability to work effectively with Product Owners, developers, testers, architects, and executive stakeholders.
- Experience supporting modernization of legacy systems and enterprise applications.
