Job Description
We are seeking a talented and motivated Scientist to join the Discovery Sciences & Technologies (DST) group to contribute to the discovery and development of drug candidates in the areas of Virology, Inflammation and Oncology. DST enables drug discovery with the design and execution of rigorous, quantitative, and physiologically relevant in vitro biochemical, biophysical and cellular assays. We collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams to discover and evolve drug candidates from lead identification efforts to the characterization of the final development candidate, as well as characterizing drug candidates clinical effects through exploratory biomarker assays.
The successful candidate will use mass spectrometry as well as other techniques to develop and operate analytical in vitro methods for the advancement of discovery and clinical stage projects. Prior knowledge of enzymology and experience with covalent inhibitor discovery and characterization is an asset. They will also represent DST as a subject matter expert in project teams and advise colleagues on most effective path to achieve goals.
This is a Foster City CA based position.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, plan and execute in vitro assays to enable lead identification, lead optimization, and drug candidates development
- Independently analyze experimental results and draw appropriate conclusions
- Contribute to the enhancement of DST’s mass spectroscopy infrastructure and expertise with hands on participation, team-based initiatives, and advising colleagues
- Work with cross-functional teams and serve as functional area expert to advance Research and Development projects
- Communicate results and findings effectively with project teams and key stakeholders
- Maintain a cutting-edge awareness of technical developments and scientific knowledge and apply these where possible to improve performance and capabilities
Basic Qualifications:
- 6+ Years with BS
OR - 4+ Years with MS
OR - 0+ Years with PhD/PharmD
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Cell biology or a related field
- 2 or more years conducting independent research in Academic (postdoctoral research) or Industry setting preferred
- Expertise in mass spectrometry applied to targeted proteomics (required) and small molecule lead ID (e.g. ASMS) and irreversible inhibitor analysis (desired)
- Background in enzymology with experience working with covalent inhibitors highly desired
- Excellent experimental design and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to meticulously document laboratory procedures and experiments. Ability to multitask effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced research environment
- Strong project management skills with ability to carry out multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high quality standards
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across disciplines and present to executive leadership
