The Opportunity

The Department of Cell and Tissue Genomics (CTG) at Genentech is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Scientist 3 to leverage cutting-edge genomics strategies for target discovery and next-generation therapeutic engineering. In this role, you will develop and deploy molecular engineering technologies, biologically relevant models, and state-of-the-art genomics, functional, and imaging read-outs to interrogate complex immunological disease mechanisms at scale.  By integrating complex experimental systems with deep biological insights, you will directly drive the identification of novel molecular mechanisms, target candidates, and cell therapy strategies for immune-mediated diseases.

The ideal candidate thrives at the interface of technology development and disease biology—building and applying cutting-edge molecular tools to extract actionable biological insights.. The candidate will work collaboratively with scientists of diverse expertise, including immunology, cell therapy, genomics, human genetics, computational biology, and AI/ML. No prior industry experience required, but an open and curious scientific mind is essential, as well as strong communication skills. If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of functional genomics to transform how we understand and treat complex immune-mediated diseases, we encourage you to apply.

Who You Are

  • Education: Doctorate degree in a relevant field, including molecular biology, genetics, immunology, systems biology, synthetic biology, developmental biology, biochemistry, and/or biomedical engineering.

  • Immunology: Deep expertise in immunology, including primary immune cell culture and functional assays. In vivo experience a plus

  • Molecular Engineering: Strong foundational background in molecular biology and functional genomics tools, such as CRISPR (CRISPRko, CRISPRi/a, base editing), deep mutational scanning, lineage tracing, molecular recorders. Experience deploying these at scale and in primary immune cells and/or iPSCs is a plus.

  • High-content genomics: Experience in NGS, single-cell genomics, proteomics and/or imaging

  • Leadership: Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel, collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and lead research projects.

  • Scientific Productivity: Sustained record of productivity in the form of publications and/or patents.

  • Proficiency in a broad range of biochemical, molecular, and cell biology techniques including flow cytometry.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to independently design, execute, and interpret experiments.

  • Strong communication skills and a genuine enthusiasm for collaborative, team-based science.

  • Motivation to learn new experimental approaches and computational analyses, and the curiosity to explore unconventional ideas.

Preferred:

  • Data Analysis: Experience in the analysis of single cell and genomic data using R and/or Python.
