Position Summary 

OceanX Science, the research and technology pillar of OceanX, seeks an intern to help shape and execute the scientific objectives of OceanX for summer 2025. As an intern at OceanX, you will contribute to our mission by helping your pillar complete key projects and tasks. You will lead independent projects with the support of your team, in addition to shadowing and contributing to higher level initiatives that have a significant impact, while growing and gaining professional exposure.  

This program will run from June through August and involves working approximately 40 hours per week. This opportunity operates in a hybrid work schedule in our NYC office to allow for in-person meetings/collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to the development of the OceanX Science Program Diversity Initiative (OXSPDI) through innovative ideation, partnership building, and unique program initiatives; 
  • Contribute to the drafting of 2026 OXSPDI goals, objectives and actions plans; 
  • Contribute creative ideas for new programming, events and engagement activities; 
  • Contribute to OXSPDI website through creating and updating content, conducting related research, data-entry, and site maintenance through ideation, metric tracking, and site layout; 
  • Assist the Media and Marketing & Communications teams in external branding initiatives including communicating the scientific DEI initiative activities and achievements in memos/briefs/outreach designed for the OXSPDI website; 
  • Assist in the development of metrics to track the progress and impact of OXSPDI activities 

 

Qualifications:

Professional Attributes: 

  • Currently working toward a BSc in Marine Science, Marine Technology, Oceanography, or related field 
  • Strong research and writing skills, including ability to synthesize complex topics  
  • Strong interest in DEI initiatives for underrepresented minorities in Marine Science 
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Experience with website development is a plus

  • Determined, resourceful and practical. An independent, self-starter, with a “roll up your sleeves” attitude and strong work ethic 
  • Agility, with a track record of getting things done 
  • Organized, reliable, and meticulous 
  • Ability to prioritize, meet tight deadlines, anticipate needs, and maintain high quality work 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (Excellent proofreading, verbal, and written communication skills)  
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and ability to work in an ambiguous startup environment 
  • Maintains high standards 
  • General curiosity and passion for the Ocean  

 

Compensation:  

Compensation for the role consists of a $20/hour wage. This position is not eligible for health or financial benefits packages.
