ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Paint and finish all scenic elements as assigned.
  • Ability to organize and maintain inventory of painting supplies and tools.
  • Maintaining the safety, order, and cleanliness of all paint areas.
  • Maintaining all paint equipment.
  • Be comfortable working at heights on ladders and personnel lifts.
  • Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  

Assists in oversight for student workers, production students, and CSER students.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience

1-3 years of experience, undergraduate degree, or comparable training.

A degree in technical theatre or scenic art is preferred.

  • Strong experience in scenic art, understanding different paint styles.
  • Knowledge of theatrical production processes, from design phase to strike.
  • Knowledge of all areas of a paint shop and its tools/equipment.
  • Must be able to follow a design through to completion.
  • Experience handling multiple productions at one time.
  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.

  • Computer skills.

  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
Physical and Sensory Abilities
  • May be required to travel to on-campus and local facilities.
  • May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak to effectively communicate orally.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 40 or fewer pounds.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled setting.  It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate. The shop can be loud when tools are in use. Working environment may include facilitation of events outdoors occasionally.

Driving Requirements

If the employee is required to travel in performing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel.  Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.
