Scala Developer (Apache Spark and Cloud Data Warehousing)

Overview: We are seeking a talented and driven Scala Developer to design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and backend services. The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills in Scala, experience working with big data tools and data warehouses, and proficiency in building scalable data solutions on cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Data Pipeline Development:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) using Apache Spark / PySpark.
  • Build and orchestrate data workflows using Apache Airflow.

• Backend Development:

  • Develop and optimize backend components and data integration logic using Scala.
  • Write efficient and complex SQL queries for data transformation, validation, and analysis.

• Data Warehousing:

  • Work with cloud-based data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks to support analytics and reporting needs.
  • Design and maintain data models and schemas to support both operational and analytical workloads.

• Collaboration and Quality Assurance:

  • Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and other engineers to deliver reliable and scalable data solutions.
  • Ensure high data quality, reliability, and security across platforms.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve the performance of data pipelines and backend services.

Technical Skills:

Category-wise:

• Programming Languages:

  • Proficiency in Scala for data engineering and backend development.
  • Additional proficiency in Python or Java is a plus.

• SQL and Data Processing:

  • Strong experience with SQL and working with large datasets.
  • Practical knowledge of big data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, PySpark).

• Data Warehousing:

  • Hands-on experience with data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, or Databricks.

• Workflow Orchestration:

  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools like Apache Airflow.

• Relational Databases:

  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.

• Cloud Platforms:

  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure and their data services.

Day-to-Day Activities:

• Designing and developing scalable data pipelines for ETL/ELT processes.
• Building and orchestrating data workflows using Apache Airflow.
• Developing and optimizing backend components using Scala.
• Writing complex SQL queries for data transformation and analysis.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable data solutions.
• Ensuring data quality, reliability, and security across platforms.
• Monitoring and troubleshooting data pipelines and backend services.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in data engineering and backend development.
• Proficiency in Scala.
• Strong experience with SQL and working with large datasets.
• Hands-on experience with data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, or Databricks.
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools like Apache Airflow.
• Solid understanding of cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
