Scope
The SCADA Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure for SCADA systems. This role ensures the secure and efficient operation of SCADA networks supporting the monitoring and control of industrial processes. The SCADA Network Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to optimize network performance and implement new technologies.
Duties & Responsibilities
Network Design and Implementation
- Design and configure network infrastructure for SCADA systems, including switches, routers, firewalls, and other networking equipment.
- Implement network architecture that ensures high availability, redundancy, and security.
Installation and Commissioning
- Oversee the installation and commissioning of network hardware and software.
- Conduct system testing and validation to ensure proper network functionality.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Perform routine maintenance and updates on SCADA network infrastructure.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues to ensure minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Monitor network performance and implement improvements as needed.
Documentation and Reporting
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including network diagrams, configuration files, and operation procedures.
- Generate and analyze network performance reports and data logs.
Security and Compliance
- Implement and manage network security measures to protect SCADA systems from cyber threats.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to network security and data protection.
Collaboration and Support
- Work closely with SCADA engineers, IT staff, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and operation of network systems.
- Provide technical support and training to end-users and staff.
Requirements
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience:
- Proven experience as a Network Engineer, preferably in a SCADA or industrial automation environment.
- Hands-on experience with configuring and managing networking equipment (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, etc.).
- Experience with SCADA systems and industrial network protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC, DNP3).
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of network architecture, protocols, and security.
- Proficiency in network management tools and software.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Certifications:
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)) are a plus.
Additional Information
- Ability to travel to various sites for network installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
