We are seeking a knowledgeable and innovative SANY Science Curriculum Coordinator for grades K-12 to lead and enhance our established science programs across all SANY schools. This pivotal role involves refining our current science curriculum to ensure alignment with district, state, and national standards, while fostering scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and a love for discovery among students and educators.

Job Goals:
The SANY Science Curriculum Coordinator will continue to advance, articulate, implement, and evaluate our comprehensive science program, ensuring it remains research-based, rigorous, and responsive to the diverse learning needs of students across the district.

Position Responsibilities:

Curriculum and Instruction:
Serve as the SANY leader on curriculum and instruction in science across all K-12 grade levels. Maintain and strengthen the alignment of the science curriculum with state and NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards). Manage, coordinate, and monitor instructional programs while ensuring timely updates to content and pedagogy.

Assessment and Intervention:
Evaluate the effectiveness of current science programs in improving student outcomes. Lead data meetings to analyze science performance data and design targeted intervention plans where necessary to improve student achievement.

Staff Development:
Lead district-wide professional learning opportunities for science educators. Design and deliver high-quality workshops, training sessions, and coaching that support effective science instruction, inquiry-based learning, and cross-disciplinary integration.

Leadership and Coordination:
Collaborate with school leaders and educational stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of science instruction and evidence-based interventions. Work in coordination with other curriculum coordinators to promote interdisciplinary coherence and strategic instructional planning.

  • Demonstrate exemplary instructional leadership by modeling effective science teaching practices and actively engaging in curriculum innovation.
  • Stay informed of cutting-edge developments in science education, instructional technology, and research-based practices.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of SANY-wide school improvement plans with a strong focus on science goals.
  • Adhere to professional standards and conduct as outlined in the SANY Employee Handbook.
Respond to staff communications within 72 hours and address administrative concerns in a timely and effective manner.

Requirements

Education & Certification

  • Master’s degree in Science Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a closely related field.
  • Preferred: Valid New York State teaching certification in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or General Science).

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience in K–12 science.
  • Demonstrated expertise in science curriculum design, NGSS alignment, and inquiry-based instruction.
  • Experience leading professional development workshops for science educators.
  • Proven ability to analyze science assessment data to design interventions and improve student outcomes.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Deep knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and NYS Science Learning Standards. 
  • Strong understanding of STEM integration and cross-disciplinary instructional practices.
  • Ability to model and coach inquiry-based, lab-based, and technology-supported science instruction.
  • Skilled in curriculum evaluation, program improvement, and instructional leadership.

  • Willingness to collaborate across multiple grade levels and school sites.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills for coordinating district-wide science initiatives.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to schools within a 2-hour range, including operation of district vehicles.
