Position Overview
The Salesforce Architect / Technical Product Owner will lead the design and delivery of scalable, high-quality Salesforce solutions within the Global CRM team, while also managing and mentoring other Salesforce professionals on the team. This is a hands-on, player-coach role: the individual will personally architect solutions and stay close to the platform, while also owning team leadership, prioritization, and stakeholder relationships.
This person will act as the primary bridge between technology and business stakeholders, shaping product vision, translating business needs into technical solutions, and driving delivery of high-impact Salesforce initiatives. They will define requirements, build application and process specifications, scope and estimate work, coordinate with delivery teams, and ensure work is prioritized by business value and aligned to StepStone's broader technical strategy.
Essential Job Functions:
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of Salesforce professionals (admins, developers, analysts), setting technical direction and reviewing their work for quality and best practice.
- Architect end-to-end Salesforce solutions, defining data models, integration patterns, and system architecture in line with business and operational requirements.
- Evaluate and recommend the right build approach for each need: declarative tools (Flows, Lightning App Builder, Reports/Dashboards) vs. custom development (Apex, Lightning Components) vs. purchasing an existing AppExchange or third-party solution, balancing speed, cost, and long-term maintainability.
- Identify and implement opportunities to use AI to drive process efficiencies across Salesforce-supported workflows.
- Scope projects and provide effort/timeline estimates for prioritization and roadmap planning.
- Manage delivery using Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid methodologies as appropriate to the project.
- Integrate third-party systems with Salesforce using REST/SOAP APIs, and enterprise ETL tools.
- Partner with business stakeholders to translate desired outcomes into technical specifications and a project plan covering business decisions, configuration changes, and dependencies.
- Own and groom the Salesforce product backlog in collaboration with stakeholders and delivery teams.
- Review existing and proposed solutions, recommending improvements to design, performance, and scalability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Salesforce and its integrations.
- Participate in release management, evaluating new and upcoming Salesforce features and recommending changes that maximize platform value.
- Ensure best practices are followed across technical design, security settings, and email deliverability.
- Oversee resolution of Salesforce user support requests, including SLA tracking in the case management system.
- Serve as a backup to other CRM team members and support broader Salesforce team projects and initiatives.
- Build strong working relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders to ensure business requirements are understood, documented, and met.
- Apply a lean-agile mindset; break down complex or ambiguous problems into rational, actionable steps; adapt plans as new information emerges.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and help implement new processes as technologies, risks, and methodologies evolve.
- Recognize when team members need support and provide it in a way that builds their confidence and skill.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of Salesforce experience, including 5+ years in a Solutions Architect, Technical Product Owner, or similar technical-leadership capacity.
- 5+ years of experience directly leading or managing a team, ideally a technical/Salesforce team.
- Experience in the capital markets, asset management, or private markets industry strongly preferred.
- Multiple current Salesforce certifications required; strong candidates will hold certifications spanning Administrator, Platform App Builder, and Sales Cloud and/or Service Cloud Consultant, with Architect-track (Application Architect, System Architect) or Agentforce Specialist certifications a significant plus.
- Hands-on experience with Salesforce declarative tools (Flows, Process Builder, Lightning App Builder) and working knowledge of Apex triggers and classes.
- Experience with enterprise integration and ETL tools.
- Experience analyzing data using query languages such as SQL and SOQL.
- Demonstrated experience scoping projects and estimating delivery timelines.
- Experience delivering work using Agile and/or Waterfall methodologies.
- Active participation in the Salesforce Community (Trailblazer community, user groups, etc.) a plus.

- Ability to tailor communication to multiple audiences, from engineers to senior business stakeholders.
- Excellent written, verbal, and virtual communication skills.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills; comfortable working across teams in a matrixed organization.
- Ability to balance innovation with process discipline and efficiency.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple deadlines.
- Highly motivated, self-directed learner who stays current with the Salesforce and AI ecosystem.
- Adjusts plans and processes to meet the changing needs of key stakeholders.
