SUMMARY 

The Sales Engineer I role generates new business opportunities by consistently prospecting, cold calling, and developing relationships with new customers and markets within the assigned territory. This position helps manufacturers transform their operations by promoting cutting-edge machine tools (automated lathes, turret punch press, and combination laser-punch systems) and delivering value-driven solutions that solve real production challenges. The Sales Engineer I will manage the beginning of the sales cycle—from initial contact, to lead generation to handoff to the Regional Sales Manager—while playing a critical role in increasing revenue and profitability for the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Meet established sales objectives to support the division operating plan including performing the following sales activities:

  • Identify, qualify, and engage new customers and markets through cold calling, networking, and other proactive outreach methods.
  • Meet or exceed annual sales targets within the assigned territory, with a strong emphasis on new business development.
  • Develop and execute action plans to penetrate new markets, acquire new accounts, and handoff leads to the Regional Sales Manager to expand the company’s footprint.
  • Partner with Regional Managers and Dealer Sales Representatives to drive prospecting and close new orders.
  • Educate prospects on the value and benefits of the company’s machine tool solutions, positioning products as solutions to customer challenges.
  • Represent the brand with professionalism and integrity during all customer and prospect interactions.
  • Maintain continuous reporting of sales activities in the company CRM (Salesforce), including leads, opportunities, contacts, accounts, calls, notes, and quotes.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate forecasts for orders and new business within the territory.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support lead generation’s efforts and provide feedback on market opportunities.
  • Organize and prioritize activities for effective territory coverage.
  • Actively promote company products via social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook).
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical or Business field preferred.
  • 1–2 years of experience in machine tool, industrial, or capital equipment sales, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience prospecting sales leads, cold calls, and convert leads to customers; track record of achieving or exceeding sales quotas is a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  Must have very high level of good judgment due to great number of daily operating decisions that must be made. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Highly self-motivated and results-driven with a strong focus on new customer acquisition.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technical aptitude in manufacturing; knowledge of CNC machining and fabrication applications preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Experience with CRM systems (Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a solution-selling approach.

TRAVEL  

This position requires up to 80% travel including overnight and possible international travel. A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required.
