JOB DESCRIPTION:
CNA's Sales & Distribution organization is looking to hire a summer intern for a dynamic 10-12 week paid training program that provides hands on experience and unique opportunities across a variety of commercial business areas. The Intern will have experiences in underwriting practices and participating in formal on-the-job training that can assist in preparing for a career in insurance. This role may work in various business areas on projects and other activities which support the business, and may perform other duties related to the internship.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
1. Participates and assists in internship-related or other projects.
2. Assists management in various activities relevant to internship and which support the business unit.
3. Learns about the process of reviewing commercial insurance applications and documentation to determine if the applicant is an acceptable risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards, as well as pricing and other business considerations. Includes introduction to Commercial underwriting systems and risk profiling tools.
4. Interfaces with internal and external contacts as appropriate.
5. May participate in meetings and developmental workshops as related to the industry.
6. Develops a working knowledge of product language across business units, underwriting practices, policies, and guidelines.
7. Develops an understanding of various product lines and business units that support and drive the overall operation.
8. A dedicated manager/mentor will be assigned who will be a guide throughout the internship.
9. Opportunities to meet with members of our senior leadership team and underwriters to learn about their personal experiences in distribution and within the insurance industry.
10. Professional and personal development activities and ongoing feedback and coaching on performance will be provided.
Program Location:
CNA's Colorado office is located in Littleton. The program will employ a hybrid working model, alternating between working in the office and from home.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. Interest in developing a knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry, organization and specific business area.
2. Good verbal and written communication skills, along with strong organizational skills.
3. Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems, to learn quickly and to embrace change.
4. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, and the ability to cultivate and maintain positive business relationships.
5. Developing decision-making skills.
6. Comfort with technology and learning CNA systems along with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Education & Experience
1. Satisfactorily completed sophomore year of college with at least a minimum GPA of 3.0.
2. Ideally, a declared business/finance, accounting, or insurance/risk management major.
3. Some previous work experience is preferred.

I n certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia , California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland , New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $37,000 to $64,000 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
