Position Overview:

 

The Safety Manager develops and administers programs to ensure a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA, federal, state & local regulations for all American Licorice locations.  This individual will also manage safety programs to ensure a safe and accident-free work environment.  Plans and/or delivers programs to train managers and associates on work site safety practices.  Promotes plant safety by working with all departments to analyze current situation and recommend safety improvements.  Analyzes accident data to identify trends and types of accidents that can be prevented. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA/CALOSHA federal, state & local regulations.
  • Develop, coordinate & administer effective safety programs to establish a zero accident culture.
  • Responsible for local Worker’s Compensation compliance.
  • Administer and coordinate annual risk assessments (FM Global) for the buildings and equipment.  Work with management and risk insurance carrier to resolve any concerns and to ensure compliance.
  • Liaison for Worker’s Compensation insurance provider.
  • Investigate, analyze and document all accidents and near misses.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and solutions for safety issues.
  • Ensure that corrective actions are administered as result of safety policy violations.
  • Identify trends and contributing factors that impact associates’ environment related to accidents.  Research, suggest and implement solutions to safety hazards and document in Intelex
  • Develop and deliver safety training as needed on-site i.e., OSHA 10 & 30 hour certification.  CPR/First Aid/AED training.
  • Lead monthly Safety Committee meetings.
  • New hire safety orientation (GMPs, House Rules, Emergency Evacuation procedures)
  • Review all SDS to ensure associates have proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the job in compliance with SDS.  Provide additional training as needed.
  • Manage company-wide safety-incentive programs.
  • Ensure that proper PPE is ordered and available as required.
  • Manage hazardous waste disposal and appropriate documentation as required by state and local authorities.
  • Responsible for Food Safety as related to position.

 

Qualifications

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Three to five years Project Management Experience.
  • 5 + years of Safety related experience
  • Public Relations Experience.
  • OSHA certification required.
  • Travel to California location, as needed

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Self-starter with strong initiative.
  • Capable of understanding larger programs and projects and able to break them down into  manageable and achievable tasks.
  • Excellent oral and written communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of people.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • OSHA authorized 10 & 30 hour trainer preferred.
  • Certified CPR/First Aid/AED trainer preferred.

Skills Required
