Hexcel is currently seeking a Safety Engineer at our Kent, WA, USA location. 

The Safety Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing a variety of health and safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. They will also assist the EHS department in managing all health and safety standards, growing the safety culture, and preventing injury to employees along with preventing damage to property and equipment. 
 

Summary pay range: $77,968 - 117,324 annual salary.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

  • Support the development and execution of the EHS site improvement plan. Develop, implement, and audit programs and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations, and corporate health and safety management systems (HSMS). Assist the EHS Manager as an internal resource by conducting periodic reviews of the plant’s Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and OSHA compliance.
  • Support the maintenance of ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Support growing and maintaining a positive safety culture and working relationships with employees and management by providing support and reliable guidance regarding safety issues, ideas, or concerns.
  • Assist facilitators in the development and maintenance of accurate job hazard analyses (JHA) for all processes.
  • Compile, review, analyze and interpret incident data.  Assist facilitators and management in the investigation of incidents to determine root causes and corrective actions and work to close corrective actions. Assist facilitators, as needed, with corrective actions.
  • Establish and support methods of communicating safety information to employees and promoting involvement in prevention activities.
  • Support the management of the safety training program by updating the course content as required, establishing effective delivery and testing methods for determining effectiveness.  Actively support monthly plant authorized safety training.
  • Employ the hierarchy of controls to reduce risk of unwanted events. Make recommendations for hazard controls based on comprehensive analysis.
  • Participate in the design and pre-start-up review of new and modified equipment and processes, prior to release to operations.
  • Assist the EHS Manager with managing workers compensation claims, performing industrial hygiene related sampling, and ergonomic assessment, among others.
     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.), preferably Safety/Environmental Engineering or related technical field, from four-year college or university. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of related experience as a safety coordinator or engineer in industrial manufacturing facility.
  • Must possess strong technical and oral/written communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook or related software.
  • Current holder of a professional credential such as CSP, ASP, GSP, or CIH from the BCSP, or CHMM, ST/CHMM, or CHMP form the IHMM, preferred.
  • Ergonomics experience preferred.
  • Hearing conservation experience preferred.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and/or 45001 preferred.
  • Working knowledge of worker's compensation requirements and best practices for self-insured companies preferred.
