Summary:
The Safety and Compliance Specialist I/II is responsible for designing, developing and implementing the organization's safety programs, policies and procedures with the assistance of an outside safety firm (outsourced partnership).
Duties:
- Safety Program Development and Implementation
- Create and manage various safety programs including California’s Workplace Violence Prevention Plan in collaboration with the safety committee, IT and facilities departments
- Conduct safety needs assessments
- Lead the safety committee and hold regular meetings
- Plan and organize evacuation drills
- Work with area ministry offices on their evacuation drill/safety plans that address the natural disasters that occur in those states/locations
- Research, create, implement, and conduct safety training for current and newly hired employees.
- Maintain safety red box and roll call sheets and emergency contact information in the HRIS and maintain employee alert system
- Worker’s Compensation (WC)
- Document work related illnesses and injuries and authorize medical treatment
- Document Covid incidents and communicate return to office protocols
- Investigate and analyze incident data to identify root causes and trends and work with stakeholder to correct hazards
- Manage the WC claim process
- Assist with the annual worker’s compensation audit
- Work with Manager, Payroll and Benefits on WC leaves of absence
- Locate and set-up new medical facilities for injured workers
- Health and Wellness
- Recommend and implement work injury preventative measures such as ergonomic assessments and workplace inspections, etc. and assess whether a consultant is needed.
- Order ergonomic equipment for employees and request a doctor’s note, when applicable
- Compliance Recordkeeping & Reporting
- Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and the COVID emergency temporary standards (ETS).
- OSHA recordkeeping/reporting i.e. Form 301 report, Form 300 log, Form 300A Summary and 300a electronic submission
- Various governmental safety and Covid reporting and required employee communications
- Employment posters – place annual orders – display new posters in various locations though the office – update e-Posters on company SharePoint Site
- Assist with updating the employee handbook
- Assist with the CA live scan compliance program – review employee’s live scans results, maintain policies and update the Retreats and Getaways page on company SharePoint site
- Stay abreast of safety and Covid regulations and standards relevant to the industry and all Joni and Friends locations
Qualifications:
- Must possess a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ and agree with the Joni and Friends statement of faith
- Desire to serve in a growing and dynamic Christian service ministry
- Bachelor’s degree in business or human resources
- Experience developing and managing a safety program in an office setting. Specialist I: Requires 1-3 years of experience and Specialist II: Requires 4+ years of experience. Consideration will be given for 5-years of experience working in HR with safety and compliance responsibilities
- Ability to work in a team as the role will require leading a safety committee and partnering with the IT and Facilities departments and the ability to be self-disciplined when working independently
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to engage effectively with all levels of employees and leadership
- Good problem solving and researching skills for determining best practice solutions
- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines
- Experience with planning and conducting safety drills
- Working knowledge of Cal-OSHA and OSHA regulations, HR compliance and governmental reporting
- Experience with creating, implementing, and communicating safety training content
- CPR certification required or willingness to undergo training
- Willingness to undergo a live scan to become confirmed as a live scan Custodian of Records (COR)
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite
- Understanding of Christian ministry and specifically Joni and Friends is desirable
Compensation for this role is based on experience: Specialist I (1-3 years of experience) $25.30-$29.50 per hour and Specialist II (4+ years of experience) $28.00-32.50 per hour. This is a hybrid position in the Agoura Hills location Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, remote Wednesday and Friday.
