American Robots is a leading distributor of Unitree Robotics platforms in North America, specializing in advanced quadruped and humanoid robots used across research, industrial inspection, media production, and emerging public safety applications.
We are currently developing a new robotics platform focused on public safety and industrial deployments, integrating mobile robotic systems with advanced sensing, perception, and operator interfaces.
We are seeking a Robotics Systems Engineer to help architect and integrate this platform as it evolves. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working across robotics software, hardware integration, and system architecture while collaborating with external development teams building the software layer of the system.
This position is based on-site at our Brooklyn, NY office, where the engineering team works directly with robotic platforms and hardware integrations.
Responsibilities
• Architect and integrate robotics systems built around advanced quadruped robotic platforms, including Unitree systems
• Design and manage integration of sensor payloads including thermal cameras, LiDAR, environmental sensors, audio systems, and other mission-specific hardware
• Collaborate with external development teams responsible for building the operator software platform
• Define technical requirements and ensure proper integration between robotics hardware and the application layer
• Prototype and test sensor integrations and perception systems on robotic platforms
• Support field testing and validation of robotic deployments in real-world environments
• Help shape the long-term architecture of American Robots’ robotics platform as the engineering team grows
Qualifications
• 5+ years experience in robotics engineering, autonomy, or robotic systems integration
• Experience working with ROS2 and Python in robotics environments
• Strong understanding of robotics perception systems and sensor integration
• Experience integrating cameras, LiDAR, or environmental sensors into robotic systems
• Ability to work across both software and hardware domains
• Comfortable collaborating with external development teams and guiding technical direction
Ideal Experience
• Robotics startups or R&D labs
• Mobile robotics platforms
• Autonomous systems or field robotics
• Sensor fusion and perception systems
