Who You Are
In this role as our Controls Engineer (Physical AI) you will be responsible for supporting FANUC robot products in the areas of physical AI, external motion control, virtual commissioning & digital twin technologies for both internal and external customers. You will manage, organize, and administer high level software & controls expertise while assisting FANUC District Managers with various sales support requests to enable continued regional unit and profit growth.
You need to exhibit a strong bias for action and demonstrate a willingness to proactively address the evolving and unforeseen needs of the team. You should possess the ability to navigate ambiguity with confidence and be committed to the continuous development of new skills as the complexity of the work increases over time. You need to be well-versed in interacting with and supporting sales and application engineering with your technical expertise and advanced communication skills.
The primary area of support will be the San Francisco Bay area with occasional travel to support clients in Washington state.
How It’s Done
- Serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert for physical AI and virtual commissioning applications, guiding customers, engineering teams, and sales on the effective use of FANUC products
- Identify and visit key, new, or competitor ASI and End User accounts in the region: build relationships with engineering and management by spending time training and strengthening customer skillset
- Provide both pre- and post-sales technical support, including application reviews, feasibility studies, simulations, demonstrations, customer presentations, troubleshooting, and application optimization
- Investigate and manage product and application issues by identifying root causes, evaluating corrective actions, and communicating clearly with cross-functional teams
- Develop new and emerging applications and market opportunities by researching use cases, validating solutions concepts, and performing proof-of-concept testing in collaboration with sales and product team
- Work with all customers to address issues associated with the setup and integration of both common and higher-end robot options
- Track and document any/all support requests providing detailed resolutions and appropriate customer information
- Identify opportunities to apply cutting-edge advancements in robotics and apply them to practical industrial problems
- Transform complex partner requirements into highly reliable and functional technical outcomes
- Improve our robotics software framework and contribute to a reliable product
- Support customers with vision evaluations and troubleshooting their existing iRVision systems
- Accompany sales team on sales calls when a high level of technical support is required
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical or mechanical engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in engineering and integration of industrial robotics automation with proven ability to read electrical and control prints
- Minimum 3 years of experience in motion planning or related field
- Experience with modern simulation and emulation software products (i.e. FANUC Roboguide, RoboDK, MoveIT, Process Simulate)
- Prior experience with troubleshooting, problem-solving, and driving root cause analysis on complex projects while under pressure
- Ability to interact with and support Sales and Applications Engineering with engineering expertise
- Strong coding skillset (Python, C++, CMake, etc.) in a large, distributed development environment
- A background in robotics and ROS planning, proficient in ROS2, computer networking, Docker and Linux OS
- Ability to evaluate optimal controls and trajectory optimization algorithms
- Good grasp of classical and modern feedback control theory and techniques
- Troubleshooting, problem-solving skills and experience driving root cause analysis to complex projects under pressure

FANUC America is seeking a qualified applicant for an Engineer role. The pay range for this position is $83,716 - $135,062 per year. The pay range listed is based on both salary and other compensation, including bonuses and profit sharing, that an employee may be paid during their employment with FANUC America.
A compensation package offered to a successful applicant will ultimately be determined by consideration of a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, an applicant’s geographic location, educational attainment, and level of experience.
