The ideal candidate is a MS/MEng or BS/BEng student (minimum 3rd year) in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field with a focus on robotics. They should have experience with ROS(2), robotic programming and controls, and initial exposure to validation processes for evaluating the functionality and reliability of complex robotic systems. Experience in machine vision/image analysis, tactile perception, and/or sensor fusion techniques for task automation is also desirable.
This role offers the opportunity to work in a culture that fosters creativity and problem-solving. The position is integral to the Advanced Robotics Group and will be part of a close-knit development team creating advanced manufacturing solutions for the future.

  • Define, analyze technical feasibility, and specify hardware and software for test solutions related to advanced robotic technologies (e.g., object recognition, machine vision, motion planning, tactile perception, and dexterity).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in engineering, product management, and program management to drive new product development from concept to production.
  • Understand system requirements, help establish and validate operational parameters, design experiments, and define test plans.
  • Implement test systems, including proposing appropriate hardware (e.g., fixtures, sensors, actuators) and interfacing with electrical or computer systems (e.g., data acquisition systems).
  • Execute test plans, collect and analyze data, report and present findings.
  • Attend technical conferences and stay informed about academic advancements, tools, methodologies, and market and technical trends.
  • Comply with ISO/TS 16949 responsibilities, Health & Safety (H&S) regulations, and Magna policies and procedures.

  • Understanding of motion planning, actuators, kinematics, etc.

Skills and Competencies
  • Creative and self-motivated, with the ability to break down a vision into prioritized tasks.
  • Capable of working independently on assigned tasks (with supervision).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Excellent written (e.g., white papers) and oral (e.g., presentations) communication skills.
