8.     Duties

  1. Participates as a team member in support of the total peri-operative process
  2. Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management
  3. Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room
  4. Organizes nursing activities efficiently and effectively
  5. Delegates activities appropriate to the abilities of available staff members
  6. Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time
  7. Assists with supply, drug, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability
  8. Addresses patient needs during admission to the operating room, with attention to requirements specific to the ASC setting
  9. Transports patients to the operating room observing policies/procedures, safety requirements, and patient needs
  10. Identifies the patient and correct surgical intervention according to policy/procedure and communicates such information to all members of the surgical team
  11. Reviews patients’ medical records/needs to plan care with other healthcare team members
  12. Provides comfort and reassurance to patient
  13. Maintains patients’ privacy and dignity
  14. Explains intra-operative phase of routine procedures and care to the patient
  15. Performs the circulating nurse’s role and functions following approved operating room procedures to meet the requirements of scheduled procedures
  16. Prepares operating room according to requirements of patient/procedure to be performed
  17. Assembles and provides properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments before start of procedure and positions and adjusts equipment as required during the procedure
  18. Anticipates needs of surgical team and assists anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia
  19. Assists with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares operative site as directed by established procedures
  20. Monitors compliance with principles of aseptic technique according to accepted standards
  21. Assists with identification and confirmation of operative site
  22. Provides for comfort in the physical environment by monitoring designated parameters
  23. Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other peri-operative care personnel and documenting records accordingly
  24. Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician
  25. Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders/directions
  26. Documents patient care records and other forms accurately following policies and procedures
  27. Accurately advises others responsible for care of the patient about patient’s status
Qualifications

Qualifications

1.     Cooperative work attitude toward co-employees, management, patients, visitors, and physicians

Requirements

Required

1.     High school graduate or GED certificate recipient

2.     Graduate of accredited school of nursing

3.     RN with active license in the state

4.     CPR, ACLS, PALS certified

5.     Leadership qualities

6.     Strong ethical and moral character references

7.     Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English
