Good Shepherd Hospice is seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team as an On-Call RN working a 7-on/7-off schedule covering OKC/Norman/Hinton and surrounding communities.


In this role, you will provide skilled nursing support to hospice patients and their families during after-hours periods, helping ensure they receive compassionate, timely care when they need it most.


This position is ideal for an RN who values flexibility, autonomy, strong clinical judgment, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for patients and families at the end of life.

Schedule:

7 Days On / 7 Days Off: Thursday-Wednesday 

During your on-call week:

  • Weekday Shift: Monday–Thursday: 5:00 PM – 8:00 AM
    • Provides after-hours coverage and serves as backup support to overnight nurses.
  • Weekend Shift: Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 8:00 AM
    • Provides weekend after-hours coverage.

During your off week, you are completely off call.

Responsibilities
  • Receive patient assignments from the Patient Care Manager or Case Manager.
  • Provide nursing assessment, planning, and care focused on patient comfort and quality of life.
  • Respond to patient and family needs during after-hours and weekend coverage.
  • Communicate with attending physicians, hospice staff, and other healthcare agencies to coordinate appropriate care.
  • Maintain regular communication with patients, families, and the attending physician regarding changes in condition and care needs.
  • Assess physical, psychological, social, and spiritual factors that may affect the patient and family.
  • Update patient records accurately and timely in accordance with Medicare requirements and Good Shepherd Hospice policies.
  • Educate patients and caregivers regarding medications, side effects, personal care, mobility, safety, and preparing for end-of-life events.
  • Provide compassionate support to patients and families at the time of death.
  • Communicate unusual or potentially concerning patient/family situations to the Patient Care Manager or triage team.
  • Participate in hospice team meetings and patient conferences as needed.
  • Continue developing knowledge of hospice philosophy and pain management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsWhat We're Looking For
    • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where care is provided.
    • Hospice experience preferred.
    • Strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills.
    • Excellent organizational and self-management skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a team.
    • Demonstrated commitment to the hospice philosophy of care.
    • High level of integrity and ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
    • Valid driver's license.
    • Ability to successfully pass required background checks.
