Job Description Statement
The Risk Manager oversees the credit union’s regulatory compliance, BSA/AML, member account fraud, and internal audit functions. This role is responsible for maintaining effective programs designed to promote regulatory compliance, identify and mitigate financial crime risk, and provide assurance regarding the effectiveness of key organizational processes and controls.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage compliance, audit, and member fraud prevention activities across the organization.
- Develop, monitor, and update the AML/CFT and OFAC programs.
- Participate in various teams to implement projects within the credit union.
- Oversee fraud investigations and provide recommendations to mitigate losses and strengthen controls.
- Manage and evaluate compliance systems, including AML and fraud monitoring tools, to ensure effectiveness.
- Support staff by providing guidance on compliance requirements and risk-based decision-making.
- Prepare and deliver reports to senior management and the Audit Committee regarding compliance, fraud and audit results.
- Manage Complaint Management processes and ensure appropriate resolution and reporting.
- Oversee legal requests and serve as the primary point of contact with legal counsel.
- Lead internal audit and compliance functions, including planning, execution, and reporting of audit activities.
- Monitor regulatory changes and communicate updates to leadership and staff.
- Evaluate policies, procedures, products, and programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and recommend updates as needed.
- Assist in the development and review of forms, communications, products, and programs to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate with external auditors, examiners, and regulatory agencies and respond to inquiries and audit requests.
- Develop and maintain record retention policies and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
- Administer and monitor the vendor management program.
- Ensure annual review of credit union policies and timely publication updates.
- Supervise and develop Risk Management staff, including assigning work, providing coaching, and evaluating performance.
- Lead investigations or special audits as requested by management.
- Acts as the BSA and Compliance Officer for the credit union.
- Oversee required regulatory filings, including AML/CFT and OFAC reporting.
- Protect and ensure all confidential and sensitive information is handled appropriately.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including BSA, OFAC, the Patriot Act, and all state and federal laws.
- Perform additional duties assigned by supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is responsible for assigning, monitoring, and supervising the workload of the Risk Management Department to ensure smooth and efficient flow of work.

- Ability to communicate and collaborate with all departments of the organization.
Education and/or Experience
- College degree is highly preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in finance industry.
- Working knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations.
- Previous experience in Risk Management, Analysis, Auditing, and/or Compliance required.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Ability to obtain and maintain Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE) or similar designation.
