POSITION SUMMARY:
This in-office and in-field position oversees Krapf Group’s comprehensive risk management program, assessing and identifying risks that could impede the reputation, safety, security, or financial success of the organization. The Risk Management & Safety Leader will develop, direct, implement, and evaluate corporate safety programs, policies, and procedures for accident/loss prevention, workplace safety, and workers’ compensation programs in accordance with federal, state and local regulations and industry standards. This position supports Operations Leaders in adhering to DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, required safety regulations and other contractual requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides Krapf with safety leadership for all business functions.
• Represents the Krapf Safety organization within the transportation industry, with customers, within the local, state, national and international communities.
• Works closely with Operations Management on Crisis Management/Communication and serves as the point of contact with media inquiries that may result from such an incident.
• Serves as corporate safety liaison with insurance carriers, claims administrators and adjusters, school districts, government transportation agencies, attorneys, and community emergency personnel.
• Develops, coordinates, and implements approved corporate safety programs, policies, and procedures.
• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal transportation, health and safety rules and regulations.
• Coordinates and monitors compliance with random substance testing and corporate substance abuse prevention program.
• Audits employee compliance with corporate safety policy and transportation regulations.
• Directs staff who conduct accident investigations, including settling claims onsite when appropriate, and when needed, conducts investigations as well. Oversees the safety team’s completion of appropriate documentation for filing all claims and litigation.
• Reports loss experience and prepares monthly, quarterly and annual loss analyses for Executive Management and the Board. Analyzes loss experience for trends and provides loss control measures.
• Maintains an on-call response program for “after hours” and weekend safety incidents. Serves a regular rotation in the “after hours” safety program. Adjusts program as business needs warrant.
• Maintains systems and provides hands-on support to investigate and resolve driving complaints, including conducting driver surveillance.
• Compiles and/or oversees required regulatory reports and submits reports timely.
• Maintains the system of all safety-related files and records and updates system as needed.
• Serves as chairperson of the company corporate safety committee.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory posting requirements at all sites.
• Assists with coordinating driver safety competitions.
• Completes other work-related duties as assigned, within scope and ability.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
The requirements listed below are representative of the abilities needed to perform the essential function of this position in an office and field environment.
• Minimum of 7 – 10 years’ experience in an occupational safety role, with responsibilities to include risk management assessment and responsibility. Transportation industry experience highly preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills both with internal and external communications.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to mentor and develop staff. Ability to handle difficult situations both professionally and in a non-confrontational manner.
• Ability to apply principles and practices of analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operations.
• Integrity and the ability to handle confidential information and matters as they arise.
• Ability to obtain collaboration and cooperation from management and staff and to develop and maintain positive, professional, service orientated working relationships with all encountered in the course of work.
• Represent the Company professionally and effectively with others, both internal and external.
• Experience with third party administrators including Worker’s Compensation.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, preferably a CDL holder with S-endorsement or the willingness to obtain one through Krapf’s CDL Training Program.
• Demonstrate computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and computerized systems used by Krapf and the school bus industry.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management, Occupational Safety and Health or related field.
SAFETY SENSITIVE STATUS:
This job is considered Safety-Sensitive and incumbents are subject to random substance, drug and alcohol testing.
