Recognized as a strategic expert aligned with Property Underwriting. Individual contributor responsible for business results through delivery of risk control services within the Property Underwriting Dept. Works within the broadest limits of authority requiring the highest degree of technical complexity and coordination. Provides risk control expertise for the most complex risks that informs underwriting decision-making processes. Operates as the single point of contact for the Property unit on assigned accounts.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
1. Works with Property leadership to conduct, review and/or direct the evaluation and assessment of large and complex risks, or risks with significant exposures. Applies Risk Control policies, guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and drives the resolution of critical risk control issues that impact account profitability.
2. As a technical expert, provides risk control perspective across an entire account portfolio. Utilizes corporate and location level details to build a broad account level view of exposures and controls.
3. Produces desktop risk control evaluations that are comprehensive and able to inform underwriting decisions by leveraging third party engineering reports, insurance risk assessments, publicly available information, and data evaluation tools.
4. Develops global account strategies to positively impact loss ratios, new business goals and retention requirements to achieve profitability targets for the BU.
5. Develops and maintains business relationships with internal and external business partners. Known expert among Risk Control staff and CNA partners within SBU, actively shaping new industry relationships.
6. Supports the BU with technical expertise to ensure ongoing organizational learning, development, and advancement of key areas for Risk Control.
7. Engages with underwriting to drive corporate strategies for a BU.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. Senior level technical and business management acumen, and knowledge of insurance, risk management principles, practices and procedures. Contract management skills.
2. Demonstrated success as a risk control professional managing large, complex, and high profile accounts
3. Highest level of property risk assessment expertise including knowledge of fire protection and detection systems including applicable codes and standards, as well as demonstrated competency in fire behavior/fire science and plan review.
4. Ability to assess natural hazard risk such as convective storm, coastal wind and flood and communicate appropriate mitigation strategies for portfolio exposed locations.
5. Ability to assess human element programs and building systems, assemblies and materials, including roofing assemblies. Knowledge of loss expectancy methodologies across various perils a plus.
6. Knowledge of hazards associated with occupancies in various segments including manufacturing risks, hospitality and real estate.
7. Excellent communication, negotiation, decision making and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
8. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and simultaneously manage multiple projects and teams.
9. Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business situations.
10. Ability to achieve results, at the portfolio level, by taking a proactive long-term view of business unit goals and objectives.
11. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
12. Ability and willingness to travel.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor's degree in engineering or science discipline preferred; Masters and/or professional engineering license a plus.
2. Professional designation(s) including P.E, CFPS, FE/EIT, ARM preferred.
3. A minimum of ten years of risk control experience.

I n certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia , California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois , Maryland , Massachusetts , New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $97,000 to $189,000 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
