The Role
The RF Test Specialist is responsible for constructing, operating, and maintaining test systems, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with engineers on test procedures and automation.
Summary Generated by Built In

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

RF TEST SPECIALIST – GATEWAYS (STARLINK)

Starlink is committed to delivering fast, reliable internet to populations with little or no connectivity. We design, build, launch, and operate the world's largest satellite constellation, enabling a global internet network unbounded by traditional ground infrastructure limitations. Starlink also designs, builds, and delivers high-volume consumer hardware that enables users to connect to these satellites within minutes of unboxing, as well as our advanced gateways deployed regionally worldwide. The root of SpaceX's success so far lies in our mission to keep all engineering and production in-house, which enables a tight feedback loop, nimble decision-making, and speedy deliverables. With millions of daily users worldwide already online, Starlink is truly a game-changer and levels the playing field for those who were previously unconnected.

RF Test Specialists play a critical role in the design process by providing engineers with input on the independent operation and maintenance of resources. They are primarily responsible for constructing, operating, and maintaining test systems. As a Gateway RF Test Specialist, you will commission multiple test systems for production line use, troubleshoot test issues, and own first-level triage and disposition of hardware failures. In this role, you will work hands-on with cutting-edge radio and power hardware, as well as the production equipment that builds it.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in designing, fabricating, and building test fixtures, setups, stands, instrumentation DAQ hardware, wire harnesses, and electrical/RF systems.
  • Independently troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and RF systems.
  • Perform tests independently or with engineers per procedures and summarize/distribute test data and results.
  • Collaborate with engineers to develop/document test procedures and support test automation software development (Python).
  • Lead anomaly investigations, implement process improvements, and provide production testing support.
  • Configure Linux servers for HITL and factory use.
  • Track and service calibrated instrumentation.
  • Prioritize tasks for on-time completion in a fast-paced environment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school degree or equivalency certificate.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in a hands-on engineering or lab technician role.
  • 1+ years of experience performing electronic testing and inspection using portable measuring devices.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree.
  • Ability to read electro-mechanical schematics, troubleshoot interconnected systems, determine root causes, and implement fixes.
  • 5+ years of experience reading electrical schematics for board rework/tests.
  • Experience with test operations (thermal, vibration, TVAC, shock, EMI, RF performance) and safe handling of flight parts.
  • Hands-on experience with test instrumentation such as VSG/VSA, thermocouples, RTDs, accelerometers, analog circuitry, waveguides, VNA, and power meters.
  • Hands-on experience with debug tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum/network analyzers.
  • Software experience including Python, Linux, Windows, gitVN/JIRA/Altium/Mentor PCB/NX/Bash.
  • Demonstrated expertise with electromechanical skills such as soldering, crimping/stripping, drilling/shaping/joining, and 3D printing.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours or weekends as needed.
  • Standing for long periods of time, climbing up and down ladders, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching are generally required to perform the functions of this position.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. What We Do

SpaceX designs, manufactures and launches the world’s most advanced rockets and spacecraft. The company was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk to revolutionize space transportation, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary. SpaceX has gained worldwide attention for a series of historic milestones. It is the only private company ever to return a spacecraft from low-Earth orbit, which it first accomplished in December 2010. The company made history again in May 2012 when its Dragon spacecraft attached to the International Space Station, exchanged cargo payloads, and returned safely to Earth — a technically challenging feat previously accomplished only by governments. Since then Dragon has delivered cargo to and from the space station multiple times, providing regular cargo resupply missions for NASA.
