Principal Advanced Machining Engineer

The Exploration Company is looking for a Principal Advanced Machining Engineer to lead and structure our CNC machining workshop in Bordeaux.

Join The Exploration Company as a Principal Advanced Machining Engineer and act as the key link between Design teams, CAM/CNC programming and shop-floor execution for complex space hardware.

Based at our Bordeaux–Le Haillan site, you will provide technical leadership to a CNC team of around six people, with additional resources depending on workload. You will support Nyx and future space programs through a combination of manufacturing engineering, Design for Manufacturing and operational workshop management.

Your role will be to transform design intent into robust and efficient manufacturing solutions, while ensuring that the team, processes and machine park perform effectively every day.

The workshop covers 3-axis and 5-axis milling, CNC turning, mill-turn, grinding and Wire EDM activities. You will report to the Lead Advanced Manufacturing.

• Lead, support and develop the CNC workshop team.

• Organise daily priorities, workload, machine allocation and production follow-up.

• Drive shop-floor routines covering progress, blockers, safety, quality and delivery risks.

• Act as the main interface between Design, Manufacturing Engineering, CNC programmers and machinists.

• Contribute early to Design for Manufacturing activities, including manufacturability, tolerances, datums, tool access, workholding, machining sequences and inspection strategy.

• Support and challenge CNC programming, machining strategies, setups, tooling and workholding.

• Coordinate machining activities across milling, turning, mill-turn, grinding and Wire EDM.

• Manage the capability, availability and performance of the CNC machine park, including first-level maintenance and preventive maintenance follow-up.

• Improve workshop performance through machine utilisation, setup time, first-time-right, rework reduction and delivery adherence.

• Manage team skills development, training, onboarding and technical standards.

• Support equipment investments, capacity planning, supplier selection and machine commissioning.

• Coordinate with Design, MAIT, Quality, Metrology, Production and Supply Chain.

• Ensure appropriate production control, traceability, documentation and non-conformity management.

• An engineering degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrialisation or machining engineering.

• Significant experience in manufacturing engineering, industrialisation or advanced CNC machining, including CAM and HyperMill.

• Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturing, GD&T, functional tolerancing and machining processes.

• Experience leading a technical team and managing workshop priorities, capacity and machine-park performance.

• Experience in aerospace, space or another high-precision industrial environment.

• Professional proficiency in English and French.

• Lead and develop a strategic CNC workshop for a European space company.

• Work on critical hardware for Nyx and future space programs.

• Combine upstream manufacturing engineering with real responsibility for people, processes and equipment.

• Have a direct impact on Design for Manufacturing, industrial maturity and workshop performance.

Votre rôle sera de transformer les intentions de conception en solutions de fabrication robustes et efficaces, tout en veillant à ce que l'équipe, les processus et le parc machines fonctionnent efficacement au quotidien.

L'atelier couvre les activités de fraisage 3 et 5 axes, tournage CNC, tournage-fraisage (mill-turn), rectification et découpe par électroérosion à fil (Wire EDM). Vous serez rattaché(e) au Lead Advanced Manufacturing.

• Diriger, accompagner et développer l'équipe de l'atelier CNC.

• Organiser les priorités quotidiennes, la charge de travail, l'allocation des machines et le suivi de production.

• Animer les routines d'atelier couvrant l'avancement, les blocages, la sécurité, la qualité et les risques de livraison.

• Être l'interface principale entre la Conception, l'Ingénierie de Fabrication, les programmeurs CNC et les usineurs.

• Contribuer en amont aux activités de Design for Manufacturing, incluant la fabricabilité, les tolérances, les références (datums), l'accès outil, le maintien en position, les séquences d'usinage et la stratégie de contrôle.

• Accompagner et challenger la programmation CNC, les stratégies d'usinage, les réglages, l'outillage et le maintien en position.

• Coordonner les activités d'usinage couvrant le fraisage, le tournage, le tournage-fraisage, la rectification et la découpe par électroérosion à fil.

• Gérer la capacité, la disponibilité et la performance du parc machines CNC, incluant la maintenance de premier niveau et le suivi de la maintenance préventive.

• Améliorer la performance de l'atelier via le taux d'utilisation des machines, le temps de réglage, le bon du premier coup (first-time-right), la réduction des retouches et le respect des délais.

• Gérer le développement des compétences de l'équipe, la formation, l'intégration et les standards techniques.

• Contribuer aux investissements en équipements, à la planification des capacités, à la sélection des fournisseurs et à la mise en service des machines.

• Coordonner avec la Conception, le MAIT, la Qualité, la Métrologie, la Production et la Supply Chain.

• Garantir un contrôle de production, une traçabilité, une documentation et une gestion des non-conformités adaptés.

• Diplôme d'ingénieur en mécanique, fabrication, industrialisation ou usinage.

• Expérience significative en ingénierie de fabrication, industrialisation ou usinage CNC avancé, incluant la CAM et HyperMill.

• Solide connaissance du Design for Manufacturing, du GD&T (tolérancement géométrique), du tolérancement fonctionnel et des procédés d'usinage.

• Expérience dans le pilotage d'une équipe technique et la gestion des priorités d'atelier, de la capacité et de la performance du parc machines.

• Expérience dans l'aérospatiale, le spatial ou un autre environnement industriel de haute précision.

• Niveau professionnel en anglais et en français.

• Diriger et développer un atelier CNC stratégique pour une entreprise spatiale européenne.

• Travailler sur des équipements critiques pour Nyx et les futurs programmes spatiaux.

• Combiner ingénierie de fabrication en amont et responsabilité concrète des équipes, des processus et des équipements.

• Avoir un impact direct sur le Design for Manufacturing, la maturité industrielle et la performance de l'atelier.
