Job Scope:
We are seeking an experienced Scientist with a multi-disciplinary background, specifically in the areas of oligonucleotide synthesis, organic/bioorganic synthesis, surface functionalization, and molecular biology. Successful candidates may also have knowledge and experience with photochemistry, and nucleic acid chemistry. This position will involve research and collaboration with scientists and engineers improving the company’s proprietary semiconductor DNA synthesis technology and developing various diagnostic applications.
Location: Redmond, WA
Responsibilities:
- Develop and synthesis of desired organic compound
- Select and employ analytical techniques for synthesized compound
- Develop and perform on machine oligo synthesis with various modifications
- Develop surface functionalization for metal and non-metal surfaces for solid phase oligonucleotide synthesis
- Select and employ analytical techniques for surface characterization
- Explore methods toward enhancing surface stability and functional loading
- Contribute knowledge and expertise in the field of nucleic acid chemistry, specifically phosphoramidite based oligonucleotide synthesis.
- Technology transfer to the production team and support as needed for process improvement or troubleshooting
- Perform statistical data analysis and present the results
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related field; or M.S. with a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Expertise in nucleoside, nucleotide, and solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis.
- Strong foundation in organic chemistry and photochemistry.
- In-depth understanding of nucleic acid chemistry and phosphoramidite-based synthesis.
- Hands-on experience with total synthesis, including a variety of purification techniques such as column chromatography, HPLC, and Biotage systems.
- Demonstrated proficiency in handling sensitive or delicate materials (preferred).
- Familiarity with laboratory automation tools and platforms (a plus).
- Advanced molecular biology skills, including PCR, qPCR, hybridization assays, and next-generation sequencing (NGS).
- Proven track record of effective collaboration within interdisciplinary and cross-functional teams.
- Results-driven, with a proactive, hands-on approach to experimental design and problem-solving.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong documentation skills for drafting technical reports, summarizing experimental data, and supporting technology transfer to manufacturing.
- Highly self-motivated and passionate about driving innovation in the field of biotechnology.

Compensation:
Salary range: $80,000 – $110,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
