Position Summary
The LSEG Oil Research team is providing market insight, analysis and instantaneous access to clients interested in the crude oil, refined products and petrochemicals sectors by continuously monitoring global supply and demand, trade flows, infrastructure outages, derivatives markets and other financial activities.
We are currently seeking a Research Manager with expert knowledge of the crude markets. Based in Dubai, the role will focus on the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
The Research Manager will have responsibility for leading LSEG’s coverage of the global crude markets, coordinating with colleagues in the Americas and APAC regions. Responsibilities include conduct primary and secondary research on crude markets, delivering written and quantitative analysis and guiding development of global supply and demand models. In this capacity, the person will serve as a key member of the broader Oil and Commodities Research teams, collaborating with the Research Leads for other oil product markets, as well as other related commodities, such as Shipping and Gas.
The new joiner will be expected to serve as the primary point of contact between the regional Sales and Account Management (SAM) team and Oil Research and build positive relationships with customers, to understand their drivers and deliver positive outcomes. Likewise, the candidate will develop and maintain a network of local and international market players to provide insight and improve our products. Finally, the Research Manager will serve as the line manager for other EMEA Oil Research team members.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic Research team in the oil sector to design and develop new methodologies, quantitative models and analysis that enhance existing or new products and services.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead LSEG’s research on the global crude markets, coordinating with colleagues in the Americas and APAC regions to deliver consistent, high-quality insights into crude price and fundamentals
- Conducting primary and secondary research on the crude markets, with a focus on the EMEA region
- Guide the development and ongoing maintenance of supply and demand models.
- Liaise with regional SAM colleagues to help the grow the Oil business
- Support clients through presentations, responding to queries and demonstrating our capabilities and products.
- Develop and maintain a network of local and international market players to provide market insight and contribute to our products.
- Manage other Oil Research team members in the EMEA region, guiding their career development and supporting them to perform against objectives.
- Continuously maintain and improve core technical and analytical processes.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- A Bachelor’s degree equivalent knowledge of Economics, Mathematics/Statistics, Data Science, Engineering or Petroleum studies from a reputable university. A Master’s or technical specialization / certification would be an advantage.
- Experience of at least 10 years in the physical crude markets or a research house, either as a trader or analyst, with good understanding of market fundamentals and the oil and gas value chain. Candidates with experience in the upstream or downstream sectors or trading operations are also encouraged to apply.
- Supportive team member, with a positive attitude and flexible approach to delivering value-additive outcomes for clients.
- Understanding of financial markets, and their impact on the oil industry.
- Network of physical trading contacts in EMEA.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to connect with individuals at various levels within the organization as well as external clients.
- Experience developing global supply and demand models, either as part of a Research advisory organization or for an oil company, is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications is a must. Knowledge of Python and / or PowerBI is an advantage.
- Strong time management skills for handling multiple tasks simultaneously, while completing work within allocated timeframes.
- Good critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
