The Hussman Institute is currently seeking a full time Research Associate 2 to work in Miami.

CORE JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                                                                                                           

The Research Associate 2, SOM contributes to the University’s research activities under the supervision of senior staff. Moreover, the incumbent understands, interprets, and complies with research policies and protocols.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                           

  • Performs specialized and complex experiments/studies.

  • Participates in the publication of significant research results.

  • Advances expertise through education, training, and research.

  • Writes extramural grants/proposals to gain support when appropriate.

  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures.

  • Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments.

  • Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment.

  • Performs calculations to complete research test results.

  • Performs photography and dark room processing.

  • Participates in training sessions and workshops.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

  • Collect information and data through observation, experimentation, and various other methods, to include operating highly technical laboratory instruments and equipment.

  • Prepare tissue and specimens for complex procedures and devise experimental techniques for tests and analyses. 

  • Confer with principal investigator in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication.

  • Designs, Performs, analyze, and interpret DNA genotyping experiments

  • Identifies and order supplies and reagents for experiments

  • Keeps logs of laboratory inventories

  • Updates and maintains laboratory databases 

  • Trains and supervises new laboratory personnel

  • Operate various lab equipment including but not limited to centrifuges, liquid handling robots, PCR blocks and scanners.

  • Perform molecular techniques include, but are not limited to PCR, SNP genotyping, agarose gel electrophoresis, and tissue culture.

  • Analyze data for quality and consistency, troubleshoot equipment and protocols, prepare reports on progress/trends and make appropriate recommendations or conclusions to supervisor.

  • Demonstrate an ability to learn new techniques and standard operating protocols in a timely manner.

  • Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                        

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
