Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to provide Visual Impairment Support services to students within a school setting in Virginia. This is a fully remote position, offering the opportunity to make a direct impact on students with visual impairments by helping them access learning, develop independence, and strengthen foundational skills from a virtual environment. The ideal candidate will bring experience supporting students with blindness or low vision, including emerging braille learners, and will collaborate closely with educational teams to ensure equitable access to instruction.
Job Responsibilities:
• Provide direct visual impairment support for 30 minutes, twice per week as outlined in student IEPs
• Deliver Orientation and Mobility (O&M) instruction for 15 minutes, twice per month, focusing on environmental awareness and safe navigation skills through virtual instruction and consultation
• Support students displaying emerging skills in braille instruction under the guidance of a certified Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired (TVI)
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, special educators, and related service providers to implement accommodations and ensure accessible learning materials
• Document progress and communicate effectively with staff and families regarding student goals and achievements
Requirements
Job Requirements:
• Experience in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or a related field
• Certification or eligibility as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) preferred
• Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, including exposure to braille instruction and assistive technology
• Proficiency with virtual instructional platforms and adaptive tools for remote learning
• Strong collaboration and communication skills within multidisciplinary teams
