Torch Technologies is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Release Train Engineer to facilitate and guide an Agile Release Train (ART) in delivering high-value digital engineering solutions for Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program. In this role, you will combine your expertise in Agile methodologies, Scrum practices, and servant leadership to ensure the ART operates effectively, efficiently, and continuously improves. You will be responsible for facilitating program-level events, managing dependencies, removing impediments, and fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and relentless improvement.
As a Release Train Engineer your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:
Leading, process improving, and planning Program Increment Planning events in all aspects from logistical to strategic in nature
Serve as a Scrum Master for one or more Agile teams within the ART when needed (vacancies, vacation, surge support, etc.)
Lead ART rituals for various combinations of internal team members, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and customers/stakeholders including Scrum Masters/Product Owner sync, backlog refinement meetings, Sprint Planning, Sprint Review and demonstration sessions
Provide customer with Agile metrics and roadmap for increasing ART Agility Coach and mentor team members and stakeholders on Agile and SAFe principles and practices
Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART using Kanban and other flow management techniques
Convert timeline for epics and stories/issues into an integrated master schedule
Identify and manage dependencies, risks, and impediments across the ART Collaborate with Product Managers, System Architect, and other stakeholders to align on program vision, roadmap, and priorities
Help define, collect, and communicate program level metrics and reports
Foster communication and collaboration across the ART
Drive and track progress of continuous improvement initiatives within the ART
Stay up-to-date on the latest Agile trends and technologies
Provide tooling and process recommendations for value stream and project management
Assist teams with estimating their capacity for each sprint
Work with project management tool administrators to manage access/permissions
Job Requirements
U.S Citizenship
Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, information systems, or a related field
5+ years of experience leading projects in an Agile environment
Active DoD Secret Clearance is required
SAFe Certification (RTE, Scrum Master, Product Owner)
Experience with change management
Blend of strategic and operational vision with respect for current state and future thinking
Strong understanding of Agile principles, Scrum framework, and SAFe methodology
Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams
Experience with Agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps)
Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement
Demonstrated ability to manage projects in complex environment
Preferred Qualifications
Scrum Master or Release Train Engineer experience
Missile Defense Agency experience
Familiarity with DevSecOps practices
Experience facilitating large-scale Agile transformations
Experience using GitLab for project management
