Description
Banks Construction is seeking an experienced, hands-on recruiting and retention specialist to attract, hire, onboard, and help retain the people who drive our business. This role manages full-cycle recruiting for field, skilled-trade, operational, professional, and support positions while working with operations and HR to improve the new-hire experience, identify turnover trends, and strengthen employee retention.
Requirements
- Manage full-cycle recruiting, including sourcing, screening, interviews, offers, pre-employment coordination, onboarding, and handoff to the business.
- Partner with operations leaders and HR to forecast staffing needs, support upcoming projects, and prioritize critical hires.
- Build talent pipelines for high-demand and hard-to-fill roles through job boards, referrals, direct outreach, trade schools, community partners, social media, and field recruiting.
- Conduct structured interviews and provide candidates with a clear, responsive experience and realistic expectations about the role, schedule, work environment, and safety culture.
- Coordinate 30-, 90-, and 365-day new-hire check-ins and work with leaders to address concerns before they lead to turnover.
- Support stay interviews, exit feedback, and other employee listening efforts to understand why employees stay or leave.
- Analyze retention and turnover trends by role, recruiting source, and workforce group; translate findings into practical recommendations.
- Help develop and carry out retention initiatives, including onboarding improvements, feedback loops, and targeted action plans for high-turnover roles.
- Maintain accurate ATS and HRIS records and improve recruiting workflows, reporting, and responsible use of technology and AI tools.
- Represent Banks Construction at recruiting events and strengthen our employment brand in the construction and skilled-labor market.
Qualifications
- Three to five years of high-volume, full-cycle recruiting or talent acquisition experience.
- Demonstrated experience supporting new-hire retention, employee engagement, workforce stability, or turnover-reduction efforts.
- Experience recruiting in construction, heavy civil/highway, skilled trades, industrial, manufacturing, transportation, or a similar workforce environment is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of applicant tracking and HR information systems, recruiting reports, and hiring data.
- Ability to analyze hiring and retention trends and turn findings into clear recommendations and follow-up actions.
- Strong interviewing, communication, relationship-building, organization, and follow-through skills.
- Comfort working with field and operational teams and adapting your schedule for early-morning needs, recruiting events, or field visits.

What We Do
Banks Construction Company is a third‑generation heavy highway and heavy‑civil contractor headquartered in North Charleston, SC. The firm operates multiple asphalt production plants and specializes in asphalt paving, grading, drainage and road construction across the Lowcountry. Banks provides heavy civil and infrastructure services to public and private clients and recently expanded with a new asphalt production facility in Colleton County.
