Position Description

DEPARTMENT: Recreation

TITLE:    Recreation Site Supervisor

CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Responsible for assisting with the daily operations of Haish Gym and the Sports & Recreation Center including front desk and clerical activities; monitoring the facility; providing information to patrons, program participants, instructors, staff, and volunteers; and ensuring the District’s customer service standards and procedures are practiced.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Recreation Facilities Manager

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise the daily operations of assigned Park District facilities and program spaces.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patrons.
  • Open, close, and secure facilities according to established procedures. 
  • Serve as the building’s main point of contact for Recreation phone calls, membership registration, and program registration.
  • Assist with setup, coordination, and breakdown of programs, rentals, and special events. 
  • Conduct routine inspections, testing, cleaning, and sanitization of fitness room equipment to ensure proper operation, cleanliness, and participant safety.
  • Perform regular building inspections and facility rounds while completing occasional custodial duties. 
  • Maintain professional and effective written and verbal communication with participants and the public. 
  • Assist with risk management efforts, administer basic first aid, and follow emergency response procedures when necessary.
  • Assist with inventory management and lost and found procedures.
  • Remain knowledgeable about general district information including seasonal programs and events, facility spaces, and district amenities.

 

PERIPHERAL DUTIES: 

  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Supervise facility rentals.
  • Assist with the implementation of themed birthday parties and special events.
  • Provide backup to related positions when possible.
Qualifications

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Preference given to individuals 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be certified in CPR and First Aid from an accredited organization or obtain certification within 4 weeks of employment.
  • Preference given to individuals with prior cash handling experience.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Well organized and strong ability to work independently as well as with others.
  • Sufficient knowledge of the sports and recreation programs in order to provide a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to be proficient and understand technology including the District’s electronic registration software, website navigation, and Microsoft products.
  • Ability to perform cashier duties accurately. 
  • The ability to work evenings, weekends, and holiday hours as needed.
  • Willingness to perform emergency response protocols such patron de-escalation, administration of First Aid, and the use of an AED and Fire Extinguisher.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, use hands and fingers, and move about a large facility space. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must be able to talk, hear, and communicate orally, electronically, and in written form. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 20 pounds, and occasionally life and/or move more than 50 pounds with assistance. The employee will often be responsible for moving equipment such as soccer goals, bleachers, and other athletic equipment. Specific vision abilities require by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near people playing a variety of sports such as, but not limited to, softball, baseball, soccer, basketball, and pickleball. The employee can be exposed to a low-pressure heating boiler, cleaning products, and equipment associated with concessions. The employee may be exposed to office areas without central air conditioning or may be exposed to outside weather conditions during outdoor events including extreme heat and humidity, cold, and rain. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
