Qualifications

The Recovery Tech – Peer main purpose is to provide kind, empathetic, support, coaching, mentoring, and education for individuals while ensuring the health and safety of the residents during their stay at Recovery Villages Residential Treatment Centers. This position has been identified as a safety sensitive position that includes tasks or duties (i.e., driving) that the employer in good faith believes could affect the safety, health or reputation of the Agency, participants, the employee performing the task or others. In all duties listed in the job description, the Recovery Tech – Peer  is responsible for providing recovery peer support services to residents. This position also creates a positive experience for residents where Kindness Matters.

Qualifications Required

  • Recovery Peer Support Specialist Certificate or ability to provide within 3 months of hire
  • HS diploma or GED.
  • Self-identify as an individual who has their own lived experience of mental health conditions, and/or substance use, for 
    which they have sought support and has an experience of sustained recovery (greater than one year) to share those experiences in peer-to-peer interactions.  
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and reliable transportation.
  • Certification in first aid, CPR, and crisis de-escalation (CPI or equivalent) training will be provided if the candidate does not possess active certification.
  • Obtain Tuberculosis screening test upon hire to provide evidence that individual is free from infectious tuberculosis prior to providing services and additional TB testing or screening questionnaires will be performed annually.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to type and working knowledge/familiarity with computers and electronic clinical record keeping.
  • Possess the physical, mental, and cognitive ability to perform specific clinical and/or tasks required by the position without posing a direct threat to the safety and security of patients. 
  • Must obtain and maintain a level one fingerprint clearance card, clear APS Central Registry Check, and pass a background check.

Mental and Emotional

  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to positively interact and develop rapport with mentally ill participants and their families, professional and support staff, and various levels of staff from community agencies.
  • Able to maintain a calm, non-defensive, supportive attitude during crisis or potential crisis situations.

Physical

  • Long periods of sitting, ability to bend, lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to operate phone, Fax, copier, and a computer.
  • Must be fully ambulatory and able to assist participants.
  • Must be able to operate an Agency vehicle.

Qualifications Preferred

  • Bilingual – English/Spanish
  • Experience working in Integrated Healthcare, Behavioral Health or Residential.
  • Advanced knowledge of cultural diversity and sensitivity.

Skills Required

  • Recovery Peer Support Specialist Certificate or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Self-identify as having lived experience with mental health or substance use and sustain recovery greater than one year
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation
  • Certification in first aid, CPR, and crisis de-escalation (CPI or equivalent) (training provided if not currently certified)
  • Obtain Tuberculosis screening test upon hire and comply with annual TB screening
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to type and working familiarity with computers and electronic clinical record keeping
  • Possess the physical, mental, and cognitive ability to perform clinical tasks without posing a threat to patient safety
  • Obtain and maintain a level one fingerprint clearance card, clear APS Central Registry Check, and pass a background check
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills
