 te tūranga | About the role 
You will be supporting the growth of significant conservation opportunities, and the delivery of Biodiversity engagement work plans alongside our Treaty partners and stakeholders.

Your role will primarily involve managing a small limestone area containing five species endemic to the site and leading the recovery of dryland plant communities.

You will also have opportunities to develop your skills further by assisting in other field work across the basin.

Key accountabilities of this role include: 

  • Management of critically threatened limestone tor plant populations 

  • Monitoring and active management of various threatened plant species, including species considered to be “on the brink” and unique to the Mackenzie Basin 

  • Assisting in Crown Land Pastoral Lease (CPLA) botanical surveys and land use assessments 

  • Assistance in other field work including braided river bird surveys, invertebrate and native fish monitoring

  • Demonstrated expertise in botanical surveys and plant identification 

  • Sound knowledge of Mackenzie Basin dryland flora 

  • Accurate field data recording and management skills 

  • Ability to analyse data and prepare high-quality reports 

  • Have excellent data analysis and report writing skills

  • Be a great communicator

  • Have working a heights qualification, or similar

  • Knowledge and experience in conservation field delivery work

  • Have a full NZ driver's license (mandatory) 

  • 4WD unit standards 

  • Be comfortable working independently and as part of a team when required 

  • Work Place First Aid 

 

Desirable: 

  • A BSC, Msc, or other relevant qualification, or equivalent experience, is desirable.
